I'm also having this issue. My TV is a Sony XBR75X850D. When playing back video is also flickers on dark scenes and looks like the black levels are way too "hot" almost gray.

Same exact issue here on the Vizio M60-D1, this is definitely a problem with the Xbox One S. C'mon Microsoft, you have GOT to fix this. I just bought a new 4k TV and an Xbox One S for this? It completely ruins the excitement of new tech when the specific
features you upgraded for are broken out of the box. I'm as brand loyal to Xbox as anyone I know and this has me mad enough to consider returning it for a PS4 Pro. Acknowledge the issue and fix it please!

Same here with a Samsung KS7000, connected with the XBOX ONE S original HDMI cable and with all the correct settings enabled (HDMI UHD Color, XBOX settings, etc.). All the HDR content like 4K HDR blu-rays or games like NBA 2K17 look like the colors are
washed out. Everything seems dimmed, like having a white filter.

I bought XBOX ONE S to be used as a game console but also as a blu-ray player to complement my 4K HDR TV. Please Microsoft address this issue and solve it ASAP.

    Thanks!!

I too have been having similar, if not the same issues. I just bought an Xbox One S and LG 65UH8500 4K Ultra HD LED TV. I have a bunch of 4K Blu-Rays and NONE of them play with the vivid bright HDR colors as you see on the TV's in stores. I played Trolls
side by side from a regular Blu-Ray and my 4K disc/setup and the color is way brighter on the regular Blu-Ray. 4K blu-rays through the Xbox one are dull as crap. I've tried all sorts of setting combinations between both the Xbox and the TV and nothing is fixing
it. This is such a bummer because I want to watch these movies in 4k not regular HD but I can't even enjoy them.

I have been having this issue since Forza Horizon 3 came out with the Samsung KS8000. I just recently been trying to figure out what's going on. So I did side by side testing as far as color and video quality by using the built in Netflix app on my tv and
playing the same HDR content and on the Xbox One S there is a definite grayish tint that makes the picture quality slightly dimmer and removes the effect of HDR. Through the Netflix app built into my t.v. with the same settings the picture quality looks great!
Why does it dim down on the Xbox One S. I keep hoping for a fix in an update but almost 5 months and they haven't even acknowledge that people are having this issue when it's all over the internet. Im so tempted to go by a PS4 just to see what real HDR looks
like. Please MS help us out with this.

  8. Hdr washed out colors and dimmer during hdr content

Why are there so many posts on this all over the interwebs with no solution anywhere?

I also have the ks8000 and all hdr content is dim. Colors are ok but far to dim. Driving at dusk in Forza Horizon 3 in the jungle is unplayable without adding dynamic contrast or changing the in game brightness/ hdr brightness to unreasonable levels...
    which washes out the screen.

Playing in game mode, backlight 20, dynamic contrast off, smart led high, eco settings all off. Specifically using rting settings.

Ps4 Pro players saying they dont have the issues

  9. if you guys still have the HDR problem, i might have a work around for it!

I own the Philips 901F OLED so putting mine to your list as well haha.

For Gears 4: before you start an online match, press start en select the video menu. Now stay in that menu untill the game starts. HDR should be working now. But note: if you press start again during your match, you will suffer a dull washed out image.

It's really a shame that The Coalition hasn't done anything yet to solve this.

For Blu Ray: when playing an UHD HDR blu ray, simply back out to home and then go back to your movie. HDR should then kick in.

I really hope this helps you guys because it did for me sort of haha.

  10. This is strange, I tried your uhd hdr Blu ray solution and it looks fantastic on the home screen playing in the window, what I expect it to look like , but going back to full screen, the dullness comes back, frustrating

  12. I found out the issue, Netflix always opens in HDR, when playing 4K content colors looks fine, but when playing HD content (in HDR) that's when colors are dull, I'm guessing this has to do with the xbox one upscaling that content to 4K. So I think the upscaling
    algorithm/process needs to be fixed.

Hdr washed out colors and dimmer during hdr content

I too have problems Samsung UE49KS8000 upon booting up FH3 HDR kicks in and it's like someone has stuck a smokey film over the screen , I also have a ps4 pro and I have no such issues with horizon zero dawn in 4K HDR .

Really poor that so many people are experiencing this on a wide range of TVs yet Microsoft don't recognise it even though it's one of their biggest selling points on the one s!!!

Wake up MS you've got the Scorpio dropping in several months ,I'm having my doubts especially as this issue may carry over .

To be quite honest FH3 looks absolutely dreadful in HDR and it's put me off playing it !!!

    FIX

I found a fix sort of work around. Im on pc. but had the exact same greying washed out look with hdr enabled. it switched my tv to hdr mode but everything looked washed out. playing with the limited settings was a waste of time.

since im on pc ive also had driver issues and win 10 creators update issue. ive spent many hours on this and many emails back and forth to nvidia and calls to sony. nvidia certainly helped on some creators update issues with the latest driver but no fix
    for the washed out hdr.

    fix-

    i have 930c Sony.

after hdr enabled and the tv goes into hdr mode(on sony you cant change from hdr mode while hdr is active). that is important. that way you know your hardware is sending the signal the tv needs in part.

    in any case.

i simply unplugged my hdmi cable and replugged in and it fixed everything. tv still in hdr mode and amazing super bright colorful. i actually turned down my color settings. andromeda looked amazing.

now when i run a game that does not support hdr it looks fine in the game actually pretty amazing using the expanded color palette i believe but not really getting the hdr brightness. however when exiting non hdr games the hdr returns to washed out until
i do the unplug deal again. again win 10 itself has hdr mode. im sure xbox and ps4 gui is not hdr(not sure) so you may have to try to unplug after each hdr game is initiated???

something about unplugging and reconnecting on pc is doing something to help.

  15. Same here with an Sony xbr65x850c. It's definitely the Xbox One because watching Netflix on the TV app search for HDR shows and they look insanely good compared to when on the xbox one. I've disabled my HDR on my Xbox now which is just awful.
