  1. HDR Issues ONLY When Playing 4K UHD Disc

    Hi All -

I have a Sony XBR65X930C and I've noticed HDR issues ONLY when playing 4K UHD from the disc on the Xbox One S. My TV settings are definitely correct because HDR works via the native Netflix App and also functions properly when watching HDR content on the
    Xbox One S via Netflix.

When I play 4K UHD on the disc it looks like the lighting behind the black bars on the screen is brighter and looks similar to the "light bleeding" effect. Originally I thought this was my TV settings, but when I watch HDR content on Netflix (via the Xbox
One S) the black bars look perfect and don't have the same "light bleeding" effect I notice with the disc.

I've attached a picture of the same 4K UHD disc comparing HDR to SDR and you can see the slight "light bleeding" effect on HDR. Does anyone know what this could be? I can't blame the HDR settings because this doesn't happen on any other HDR content from
another source, just on the disc playing through the Xbox One S.

    Thanks,

    Nick

No 4K without HDR (xbox one x)

you need hdr for 4k output

I don't think you fully understand

Uhd and hdr are required for 4k output

Unless you have an xbox one s not a x

    You can't play in 4k

4k is only for.movies or streaming sources which require both uhd and hdr

    But.xbox.one x will do 4k gaming

  3. UHD Bluray won't play in 4K on 4K non HDR TV

So I have a Samsung 4K non HDR TV, and my xbox one s will show up in 4K when I am on the dashboard, but when I install a 4K HDR bluray disk it only displays in 1080p. Any reason for this? Do the UHD bluray disks not play in just 4K if its also not HDR?

  4. HDR Issues ONLY When Playing 4K UHD Disc

I wanted to update this thread comparing the same movie, scene, and TV settings with HDR enabled. As you can see, the Xbox One S causes a "light-bleeding" type effect and the Samsung is portraying the image properly.

    Thanks

    Hey there twoNICKSoneCUP.

To jump in and check, does your TV have an auto-brightness setting enabled that you can disable and test without it running? That can often times cause some coloration issues. Let us know HDR Issues ONLY When Playing 4K UHD Disc :)

  6. If you look at the second post you can see the TV has the same exact settings - the only difference is the 4K Blu-Ray player. There's a pretty large Reddit discussing this issue, seems like Sony, Visio and LG televisions are affected. Can this be fixed with
    a firmware update?

    Hey twoNICKSoneCUP.

Not seeing the TV settings you're referring to. Are you able to post them here so that we can best help out? There is an issue with auto-brightness being enabled on televisions that we're looking into, which is why I brought it up.

  8. HDR Issues ONLY When Playing 4K UHD Disc

I have a Sony 930c. In both pictures (Samsung vs XB1S) the television settings are exactly the same. Brightness is at "Full Max" on both images so it's not the brightness settings on my television since the Samsung Blu-Ray player doesn't cause the "light
bleeding" type effect. A couple users on Reddit are reporting that the Xbox isn't properly engaging HDR from the disc. One user suggests the fix to be (Read Gemini's second paragraph) -

  9. I think we've found the issue, but it still resolves a fix on Microsoft's end. In the Sony TV settings Dynamic Range is set to "Auto".

When playing games, streaming content, watching regular Blu-Rays, and watching 4K UHD with HDR turned OFF the TV works perfectly with the "Auto" setting.

When playing 4K UHD with HDR turned on the Dynamic Range setting on the TV needs to be changed from "Auto" to "Limited". This resolved the issue.

But, if you leave "Limited" on for doing anything else the picture looks messed up.

It seems as if the Xbox One S isn't triggering HDR properly. If you go to the Reddit link you can see the information described in Update 5.

    Hey there twoNICKSoneCUP.

Thanks for clarifying that fix with us. It sounds like the auto-setting on your Television may be interfering with with some settings on your Xbox One. Do you have your Xbox One set to auto-detect?

  11. I have the Xbox One S set to Auto and the TV set to Auto. I never mess with those settings and the Samsung Blu-Ray Player I used worked fine.

Right now I'm manually updating the TV settings to "Limited" when playing a 4K UHD with HDR. Whenever I do anything else I change the TV back to "Auto" and it works properly.

Do you think a firmware upgrade from Xbox could fix this?
