HDR is not being enabled the first time I start a game on Series X

I've been having this problem where HDR doesn't turn on the first time I start up a game. This also happens when I quick resume a game. At first I noticed this in Apex Legends and Control with Auto HDR but I've now also seen it in Destiny 2 recently. I can verify through my TV that it isn't receiving an HDR signal. Switching to the home screen and switching back to the game re-enables HDR.

    Anyone else having this problem?

White Flickers while watching movies/streaming? 4k UHD 60hz monitor no HDR

I had the same / similar issue with my old 4K 60hz none HDR / HDMI 2.0 monitor when watching movies and some times in games with the Series X,

As soon as i upgraded my monitor to a 4K 144hz monitor that has HDR / HDMI 2.1 ports, i no longer had this problem,

I'm not sure what the problem is, but my guess is that the HDMI 2.1 port on Series X doesn't play well with HDMI 2.0 port of monitors, or it's the Series X trying to force HDR on, even if the monitor does not have / support HDR and the HDR in Series X menu's is turned off.

Xbox Series X does not allow HDR10:on with Screen resolutions below 4K

    Hi,

Unfortunately the Asus ROG Strix XG279Q is limited to 60Hz with HDR, it's a limitation of the monitor hardware. It will either be HDR on or off I'm afraid.

A lot of gaming monitors have quite poor HDR, with low peak brightness. The "HDR" feature on a lot of monitors is a selling point that customers expect to see, rather than it being actually good. Also this monitor has a lot more input lag at 60Hz with HDR
    enabled.

I would drop HDR and enjoy 1440P at 120Hz as a better option. Making sure you also enable Variable Refresh Rate.
    Hi,

thank you for your fast reply and your explanation. Where did you find this info?

As I just bought this monitor because I thought it is a very good choice for the new Series X and the RTX 3070 as well, I can still change it to another Monitor - do you have any better suggestion for 27" and the Series X?

    Thank you,

    Günther

    Please make nba 2k12 compatible!

I dont think any new backwards compatible games are being added for the time being... although its been said recently that they may release more bc games for the xbox series x in the future with 4k and Hdr support so maybe they may add more bc games further
    down the line.

Xbox Series S feels very slow, audio lagging in menus and games are slow

    Hi,

I would check whether or not Game Mode is enabled on your TV. I have noticed this with my Series X where - when I enabled Game Mode - the sound would not synchronize with video at random times. Turning this off fixed the issue - and also improved the speed
of the UI. Also, Game Mode consistently broke HDR.

    I have a Samsung TV.

If that doesn't help, I would do a factory reset, and check that I downloaded all updates. :)

Will xbox one support 1080p HDR like PS4 does?

I'm more interested in knowing if Xbox One S/X will support 1080p and HDR for gaming. I'm fine with ignoring 4k for now.
    Thank you!

Yes, it does. HDR does not depend on 4K output. If your 1080p television supports HDR, then it will work for the games that have HDR color palettes available. It is up to the developer to enable this option in their games.

The only Xbox One family console that does not support HDR for gaming is the original, first-generation Xbox One.

Are we ever going to be able to do 1440 @120hz with HDR?: Xbox Series X is what I have . From what I've read HDR is tied to "allow 4k' but then that setting overrides resolution to 4k even if set to 1440. My display can only do 1440 @ 120 but without HDR...
