  1. HDMI Video but no Optical Sound

I have my xbox one connected to an Pioneer AV Receiver (LX SC81). Up to this point I was using HDMI for sound and video with no problems. Ive just bought the Rocksmith guitar game and have read online that there is serious sound lag when using HDMI for audio.
Therefore, Ive connected an optical audio cable from the XBox to one of the AVR optical inputs.

When in the menu settings of the AVR, video from the xbox is turned off which is normal. When in the menu settings the xbox audio via optical works as i can hear the game audio coming through the speakers. When I come out of the menu in the AVR and video
returns, the sound cuts off. It seems I can have video (HDMI) or sound (optical) but not both?? Ive tried the Optical uncompresed stereo, bitstream DTS and DD.

    :)

  2. No audio with DVD's

I tried using an HDMI cable with my Xbox S to play DVD's. I get video but no audio. I then bought an optical audio cable and tried it with my HDMI cable but neither work. My normal AV composite cable will play sound. What is the issue?

    Xbox One and Projector?

In regards to the video/audio split

    Ideal scenario:

You have a newer receiver that accepts multiple HDMI inputs. Using HDMI this will allow the sound to run through the receiver first thus outputting sound there. Sure you'll have to mute the projector sound.

    My setup:

An older receiver with optical inputs, but no HDMI. I bypass the receiver for all video using a small HDMI auto switching box ($10 on Amazon). Use the receiver for sound only, usually the optical. Since the HDMI box auto switches, there are no more steps
to changing the source then if I had a newer receiver. The sound does travel through the HDMI still, but I just mute the projector.

This works great until I want to hook something up that has ONLY HDMI, such as the latest design for the Xbox 360. I would need some sort of contraption that splits the two, which I think are out there.

If your stereo/receiver doesn't accept optical...then you could try this

  4. HDMI Video but no Optical Sound

This may sound strange, but is more of a troubleshot than anything. I'd imagine your optical cable comes from the Xbox one to your pioneer. Do you have 'optical out' on your television set? If so, run that to your pioneer and see if that makes any difference.
Only from the point of view that it might show if its the Xbox or your pioneer that needs focusing on...

  5. Hi, thanks for the reply I'm not using a TV its an AVR and projector set up. I've set the audio out on the AVR for the Xbox to optical. Its the correct setting on the AVR because when the menu option is selected video from Xbox not working, the audio is
fine. Its only when I come out of the AVR menu and video returns that I lose the audio.

Ive used a sky HD box previously with this AVR and it was video over HDMI and audio over optical so i think its an xbox one issue.

I'm sorry if this is useless, but I don't have experience with this myself. There are troubleshooting steps listed

    here
with cabling diagrams. I would run through all of those and see if you have any luck.

Use a HDMI to DVI cable to hook it up for video. Then for sound, either buy a headset that has an optical hook up to hear the game or buy some speakers that hook up optically.
