  1. hdmi surround sound problems

Hello I recently purchased an xbox one and have been having a lot of trouble getting my surround sound to consistently work. I have a LG Blu-ray/audio receiver that is connected to my tv, and my xbox one is connected to it. My comcast x1 box goes through
my xbox. It seems my surround sound only sometimes works. I have checked the settings on my cable box, audio receiver, and xbox and they all are set to surround sound. My xbox is set to hdmi 5.1- I do have hdmi cables connecting everything. When it does work
it sounds great, but when it does not I only get sound from the front left and right speakers with a soft static noise coming from all of the other speakers. This happens when trying to watch tv (and I have set the xbox to use surround sound with tv in settings),
blu ray movies, and games like battlefield 4. It seems I can force the xbox to use surround sound with enough fiddling- resetting the receiver and changing the settings back and forth on the various devices, but this is far from consistent. This really is
quite annoying as I never had any problems with my 360 or comcast box/ blu rays before with this same audio receiver- only with the xbox one have I encountered this. It leads me to believe that it is the xbox one that is having trouble running the surround
sound. Is this a widespread problem? My receiver is like 4-5 years old if that helps. I would really like to fix this as I want my xbox to be the hub for my other devices but I am doubting its usefulness as of now. Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

    :)

    No digital via HDMI ARC

No problems here connecting the xbox through HDMI ARC and getting surround sound so yes it supports it.

Sound was working and now isn't

HDMI from Xbox to TV. Another HDMI from TV to surround sound. And I think (will have to double check when I get home) optical cable from Xbox to surround sound.

No Surround sound ? Is that true ?.

Yes, the Optical and HDMI In port can't produce surround sound.

    hdmi surround sound?

    OP,

Make sure you have the settings on the Xbox and your personal surround sound system set correctly. It is also very important you check the game you are playing that it is set to surround sound. Battlefield for example is defaulted to stereo in the options
menu, so you have to change it to War Tapes or Home Cinema if you want surround sound in that game. (I prefer War Tapes)

Always make sure in every new game you play that you check the sound settings as they will always usually be defaulted for a regular T.V. audio setting.

    hdmi surround sound?

@Lost. So once you've turned on the Surround sound beta, you should be able to go into display and sound from the settings menu and choose between 5.1 uncompressed, 7.1 uncompressed, or stereo. The only way you wouldn't be able to is if you have an optical
cable running from the X1 to the receiver.
