  1. HDMI Surround and Optical Stereo Out

So I think I have already answered my own question, but I thought I put it out there to see if anyone else has run into this issue.

I am setting up a system for a client of mine where the Xbox One feeds surround audio into his receiver via HDMI.

I also want to send stereo audio through the optical output into his house audio amp so he can play/watch the X1 in his office when the kids are doing something else in the main viewing area.

I have not been successful in getting audio out of both at the same time as of yet. I have been playing with the settings on my Xbox One at home and can only get optical audio out if I turn off HDMI audio.

Is this assumption correct or am I missing something?

    :)

  2. Surround Sound

    Hello,

    I have the following equipment

HT-D5500 Sound Receiver - one hdmi and one optical out
    UN46ES6100F
    TV
    XBOX One

    TWC Cable Box

    Optical out 3 switch box

I'd like to run the tv cable through my xbox one and have surround sound. My setup tree looks like this

TV - hdmi connection to receiver, and xbox one

Cable box - HDMI to xbox one

xbox one - hdmi to tv and optical out to receiver

My question is which receiver settings do I choose: PCM, Bitstream Re-encoded DTS, or Bitstream Re-encoded Dolby D

My other question is which Xbox one settings do I choose:

HDMI audio (off, stereo uncompressed, 5.1, 7.1, bitstream out)

Optical out (bistream out, or stereo uncompressed)

Bitstream format (DTS Surround, Dolby Digital)

    Any help is appreciated!

    Surround sound not working

My setup is a little complicated but it should work just fine. My cable box goes into the Xbox via HDMI, the Xbox goes to the TV via HDMI, and the TVs optical audio out goes to the audio receiver. I do it this way so that all A/V content pushing to the TV
should come out as surround sound. All devices have been set to surround (TV, cable box, Xbox, and audio receiver) sound but there are two things I'm not sure about. 1) When trying to use 5.1 uncompressed from the HDMI audio out the Xbox gives an error, something
like my device does support surround sound (meanwhile my TV does support surround sound) so I am forced to use bitstream (not sure what the difference is) and 2) TVs SPDIF (optical audio) setting can be either RAW or PCM, regardless neither is pushing the
HDMI bitstream audio in as surround out via optical, it is stuck in stereo.

    Cable box: Verizon QIP 7232

    TV: Element ELEFT436

Surround Sound Receiver: Sony BDV E370

Before I had optical audio coming from the Xbox to the audio receiver; surround sound worked flawless when on optical bitstream/dolby digital out, but this will neglect any other device I want to connect to my TV such as my laptop. For some reason the bitstream
audio out over HDMI is stereo (not surround) but the bitstream audio out over SPDIF (optical) audio is surround. Can anyone explain why I can't get surround sound with the optical audio coming from the TV?

Dolby Digital decode & audio options

It does or at least the next update does.

    Settings-->Display & sound:

    - Digital Audio:

    1. HDMI audio (stereo uncompressed, 5.1 uncompressed, 7.1 uncompressed, Bitstream out)

    2. Optical audio (Off, Stereo uncompressed, Bitstream out)

-if u select Bitstream out (DTS Digital Surround, Dobly Digital)

    Surround Sound Setup Problems

You can't get surround sound from just the Red and White RCA connections only plain old stereo. Only way to get surround sound out is using the optical out and having a receiver on the other end capable of handling Dolby Digital 5.1 signals. There are ways
to modify a component cable to fit in at the same time as the HDMI, but there is also a audio adapter dongle you can buy that gives you just the optical and RCA red and white that is made to fit in along with an HDMI cable.

    Help with surround sound please

The HDMI standard does support surround sound ...

I would check HDMI output setting on the xbox, there are 4 settings ... Stereo uncompressed, 5.1 uncompressed, 7.1 uncompressed, and Bitstream out. Try the x.1 settings and Bitstream setting to see if the receiver recognizes surround sound. If not, you will
likely need to use an optical cable to connect the Xbox to the receiver.

XBOX One won't pass surround sound through HDMI Pass through..

For me, my ideal setup would be hdmi from cable box to xbox to surround in. Then surround out to one of my hdmi in's on the tv. I suspect that I might have to run optical out from cable box to optical in surround. I'd rather not have to switch inputs
from hdmi one for xbox/cable to surround for blue ray.

will my turtle beaches work now?

If your TB used the Optical Out for Surround you will have surround now. In in order to use chat with your TB you need the MS Stereo Adapter seen here:

    www.microsoftstore.com/.../productID.298057900

Any Headset that uses the optical out worked from release day just no surround sound, you only got stereo until this latest update.
