HDMI Splitter with cable box and surround sound receiver

currently I have my xbox 1 running though 1 port on my surround sound receiver and I have my cable box running though another port (everything is HDMI) - what i'm trying to accomplish is have my cable box "talk" to my xbox 1 and my surround sound receiver
at the same time, so that i can watch TV through either w/o out have to switch cords manually. I picked up a HDMI splitter (1 in & 2 out) I plugged my cable box in the in and one cord going from 1 out to receiver and another cord going from the 2nd out to
xbox. I got the picture working through both xbox and receiver, but no sound

anyone know a way around this issue w/o having to use optical sounds cords?

:)

Hooking up Xbox One

I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with hooking up Xbox One to Surround Sound and Cable box. I seem to be not able to have it all hooked up. Anyone with suggestions? I used to have xbox 360 and cable box plugged into surround sound receiver
then hdmi from surround sound to tv everything worked fine. Any help would be great.

3. Connecting XBox one to receiver with no hdmi port

I have a tv, cable box with hdmi ports, and a yamaha receiver with no hdmi ports. I have 5.1 surround sound and want to know is there a way to hook the xbox one so that I get surround sound with it. Currently sound only comes out of the tv speakers.

HDMI Splitter with cable box and surround sound receiver

From Support:

Basic setup with an audio/video receiver

With an audio/video (A/V) receiver, the best and most direct option is to connect the devices sequentially:

1.Connect your set-top box HDMI output to the Xbox One HDMI input.

2.Connect the Xbox One HDMI output to your A/V HDMI input.

3.Connect your A/V HDMI output to the HDMI input on your television.

Notes

•This option requires that all devices support audio over HDMI.

•Surround sound from your set-top box will not be passed through the Xbox One.

•When you perform this kind of basic setup with an A/V receiver, you’re passing both audio and video through another device. Depending on your equipment, there is a small risk of audio or video lag.

hdmi passthrough

Because of the limited options on my receiver, I can't use a component/optical combo to get 5.1 on my cable box. Would an HDMi splitter solve this issue? Run the splitter out of the cable box with one HDMI going to the One, and the other to the TV, with
an optical out of the TV into the receiver.

Question about hdmi splitter and connecting through the cable box
You are actually using a HDMI switch, which is different from a splitter. You need a 1 in 2 out HDMI splitter. You will connect the HDMI from you cable/sat box to the splitter, then 1 HDMI from the splitter directly to your TV to watch like normal. Then
the other HDMI from the splitter to your Xbox one HDMI input, and another HDMI from Xbox one output to the TV. Check out the video like I posted for more info.

Watch "Xbox One Cable Box HDMI Splitter" on YouTube
Thanks for that video. J was going to do this, but was reading that Xfinity/Comcast boxes detect splitters as copying devices and the box locks out. Can you confirm your cable provider and cable box model? Also, how was your xb1 shutting off when you
switched inputs?

hdmi passthrough

I have dish network receiver.

I plug the receiver hdmi out to the input on the splitter box.

than output one goes to my hdmi in on my tv so if you don't want to use Xbox just keep tv input on 1.

then output 2 from the box goes to Xbox receiver in and then Xbox output goes to my tv input 2

I know this sounds contusing, but the splitter mirrors the input of the cable or satellite receiver.

I have a Panasonic plasma and 3 hdmi inputs so I was fine. So my wife switches my tv to input 1 and I use input 2

Really? No passive HDMI pass-through?

Yeah, I've been toying with the idea of multiple outputs from my cable box to achieve the desired result. Don't want to use component cables, though. Too bulky and I don't think I'd be able to achieve 5.1 that way.

Essentially, what I'd like to accomplish is my cable box being able to function through the One, through my receiver, and simply on its own through the TV's speakers for late at night.

I'm wondering, would an HDMI splitter or switch serve the purpose? The set up would look like this...

Cable box --(HDMI)--> Splitter --(HDMI)--> Xbox One

--(HDMI)--> TV --(TOSlink)--> Receiver
