HDMI passthrough should work when console is off

I am hoping that a future update of the console will address the fact that the HDMI passthrough does not function when the console is turned off.

This is important for many people including my family. While I enjoy using the Xbox One to control my TV, the other members of my household want to continue to use the normal U-verse remote to watch TV. In addition, when we have a babysitter or a houseguest,
they should not require a lesson in "how to watch TV" at our house. While it is possible for these viewers to use the standard remote, they will definately notice the "xbox is listening" icon in the top right corner of the screen whenever someone in the room
speaks. This is confusing and annoying for them.

If the HDMI passthrough worked when the XBOX was off, none of these issues would not be a problem.

I have purchased and installed a HDMI splitter that sends the output of my Uverse box to the Xbox One as well as to another HDMI input on my TV. This has solved the problem for me now, but is clearly a work-around that should not be required.

Pass through question

Totally agree. HDMI passthrough when the device is OFF is a very significant feature. Having to turn on the console and navigate the menus every time you just want to watch TV is a burden. This type of flexibility would be an awesome feature. Modern
Home Ent. receivers today have the passthrough feature when the unit is turned off.

 

1X degrades cable picture

So are you saying you plugged your cable box into the HDMI passthrough on the One X?

If the cable box is defaulting to a lower resolution when connected into the Xbox One X's HDMI passthrough, you should be able to adjust the display output in the cable box's settings menu.

 

I agree completely. This doesn't need to be the whole Xbox TV experience, just a dumb passthrough when the xbox is asleep.

Add me to the list as well. My wife is not very technology friendly, so having her use the Xbox to watch TV is not an option.

 

I also agree please add this feature to the console.
