  1. HDMI CEC or ARC or both?!

    So,

    My kit is the following:

    LG Smart TV 47"

Sony STR-DN1020 with 7 discrete speakers hooked up to it and a sub.

    Setup like this:

Sky -- TV (ARC enables 5.1 DD back to amp) HDMI 2

    PS3 -- Amp -- TV HDMI 1

Xbox One -- Amp -- TV HDMI 1

My receiver and TV both support CEC and ARC, when i switch over to the SKY input menu on the TV, the amp switches to the correct channel when selected on the TV. WOW!

Select the PS3 from the TV input menu and not only does it turn the channel to the correct input on the amp but turns on the PS3 as well. OMG WOAH!

Cant select the xbox as its not appearing on the input menu on the TV, so i choose HDMI 1 (which is the amp), then grab another remote to select the input channel for the xbox. PHEW?!

So how comes the xbox hasn't got CEC nor ARC? Seems a bit pre-historic?

I don't want my xbox on 24/7, nor do i want in to be connected to the TV directly, as the sound only goes back to the amp as stereo via the TV's ARC function. Of course an optical cable would give me 5.1, but i have a 7.1 setup.

You would of thought all this stuff would have been covered??

    :)

    xbox one's tv abilities?

ARC is Audio Return Channel. It allows a TV's audio to be sent back to the attached receiver via the HDMI Out of the receiver instead of having to run a separate audio line from the TV to the receiver. It's intended for use when using a TV's internal tuner
via an attached antenna or cable source.

HDMI CEC is what allows your TV's remote to control other components without actually programming the remote with the code for the other devices.

HDMI CEC pre-dates ARC by several revisions. Unfortunately, few things take advantage of it.

if your denon has an arc then you may be able to go everything to amp, amp to x1, x1 to tv. we dont know that the x1 supports an arc though.

    -

also the x1 has an ir repeater on the rear for those of us who keep our components in a cabinet, other room, or out of a kinect ir blaster range. still have not heard if it supports hdmi cec.

  5. Blows my mind that the Xbox one S doesn't support CEC when PS3 did. Makes no sense.

xbox one s and Sony z9f sound bar

    Olov,

I am not sure what the actual fix is here, however there are some things you can look at to see if it is the cause.

First make sure that your TV and sound bar are connected via whichever port is labeled as the ARC (Audio Return Channel) input. In addition to this, ensure the HDMI cable supports ARC.

Second check to see if Apple TV and the Xbox are fighting over control of the inputs. You can disable the HDMI-CEC function on the TV and see if the issue resolves itself. Generally, if I recall correctly, this is a per port setting with the TV on ports
that use the CEC function. Try turning CEC off on one or both HDMI ports on the TV and see if this fixes your issue. If your sound bar also has HDMI-CEC settings then that may be the culprit.

HDMI-CEC allows devices connected to your TV through HDMI ports to communicate back and forth with your TV. The devices can have some control
over the TV, and the TV can have some control over the devices. This means you could control your Blu-ray player through your TV remote, for example. Or devices can automatically change your TV’s input when they need to do something.

Also if have not done so, I generally advise firmware updates of both the TV and soundbar. Often these updates will include compatibility fixes.

Xbox problem with HDMI CEC and ARC

Hello again, yes you're right, for some reason there's some conflict in the system and it hasn't been fixed yet, it seems.
