  1. HDMI-CEC breaks AV receiver on XSX

Just upgraded from a One X to a Series X. Having some frustrating issues with the CEC functionality which no longer works properly. When enabled the AVR and TV turn on, but somehow the TV switches its own speakers on and the AVR doesn’t get audio signal (just passes it through).

In addition, the XSX can’t control the volume properly - it will go up/down one step as expected then jump randomly after a moment.

No idea how this is even possible, but it’s very frustrating. I’ve seen other posts here about CEC not working at all, but nothing on this specific issue.

    Background:

    XSX -> AVR -> TV | Speakers

    Samsung Q7F, Yamaha RX-V383.

All worked perfectly with XOX. Have tried various reboots/switches/settings.

    Directv and Receiver not working

I have an older DirecTV HD DVR connected to my Xbox One also and all is working well now.

In order to get it to work, I had to connect the DVR, via HDMI, directly to the Xbox One's HDMI input. The DVR no longer passes through the AV receiver. The AV receiver's HDMI out is now connected to a different input on the TV. Fortunately, my AV receiver,
a Yamaha, turns off and on automatically with the TV, a Sharp, otherwise I don't think that everything would work, but I'm not sure. The optical out from the Xbox is the only connection to the AV receiver for the DirecTV and Xbox audio.

I don't know the details of how CEC over HDMI works, but if it is Ethernet based, you may not need a direct connection between two devices for the commands to reach the right device. For example, since my Xbox one is connected to the TV via HDMI and the
AV receiver is also connected to the TV the same way, the TV could be passing the commands along to all connected devices. If this is the case, you should be able to get your system to function fully as well.

    Good luck!

Why doesn't Xbox consoles(360 and newer) have HDMI CEC?

Just any random device? How does this work extensively? Does this just enable CEC on the primary HDMI out or is there some weird trick to plugging in my receiver to the HDMI in on the xbox and the input turns into the output but with HDMI CEC?

    Headset Audio Problem

Nevermind, I found out the headset requires an AV cable for audio so you have to break off the plastic on the AV cord and use it with the hdmi. But does this affect the performance of the hdmi and how does the xbox know to use the hdmi cord and not the AV
    cord?

Xbox One AV Reciever/ TV power on Question

ARJUN I'm not that familiar with the Kinect and how it works as I won't be using it at all, but like you said as long as the HDMI CEC components are connected properly and the Kinect has codes for your AV rcvr then it should work. Try googling how to
connect HDMI CEC components with the XBOne and see what comes up. I'm just not up to speed on how the Kinect works. Sorry for any confusion if I caused some.

How do I get my TV to shut off with XBox series X? I have it set up to, but it does not

Hi, Tim. My name is Ron, I'm an independent advisor. I will be more than happy to help you.

Make sure to check first if your TV support the HDMI-CEC feature which sends commands to and from CEC-enabled devices (such as TVs and AVRs) that are connected to the console.

To turn off the TV along with the console, please do the steps below using your console.

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide, then go to Profile & System> Settings > General > TV & display options > TV & A/V power options.

You will need to turn on the HDMI-CEC function there, please also make sure that HDMI-CEC is also enabled on your TV settings.

After setting all of that up, on the TV & AV power options screen check the HDMI-CEC box to activate CEC then turn on the following setting "Console Turns off other devices."
