    Hdmi cable affecting WiFi

    Hi,

I have an issue with my xbox one x, if I try using a cable over 2m in length then the console will not connect to Wi-Fi. When you search for networks it always finds those available but will not connect. I have now tried 3 different cables, all high speed,
they all display 4k resolution perfectly fine.

What am I missing, why does it affect the Wi-Fi connection?

The Ethernet connection works fine too.

    :)

So as stated these are not related in any kind of way. Have you upgraded anything in your internet set up ex new modem or router? Are you doing anything different than before? Has the console been moved? It might be an issue with the internet equipment.
Sometimes it gets old and needs to be upgraded. Now when you say it cant connect what does it say when you try to connect it??

    Thanks for all the responses.

So all of the hdmi cables will display 4k no problem. I have tried three different cables, one is 2.5m and the other 2 are 3m. Without moving the xbox or unplugging it in anyway. With either of the 3 longer leads connected the xbox will not connect to my
Wi-Fi, or my phone hotspot. However as soon as I swap the lead for a shorter one it will connect straight away.

I have tried using the shorter lead to get the xbox to connect and then swap it for a longer lead, but the Wi-Fi will then disconnect???

The Ethernet connection is unaffected by longer leads!!!

I can see no reason at all for this happening, I have tried the xbox in multiple locations and using several different tvs all with the same result.

Ii don't think that hdmi cable can cause issues to WiFi connection of your console. Are you sure about this?

    Hi There,

Wifi connection is affected the further you are away from your connection, and extended the cable further away from your router could be effecting it.

When you say "using a cable over 2m in length" causes the console not to connect, do shorter cables work without WiFi issues?

When you are using shorter cables, do you use different power outlets or move the console closer to the TV / projector?

If so, there might be a few issues that might help troubleshoot:

If you are using a different power outlet, it might be that the electric wiring in your house is not equally grounded properly on your different power outlets.

If your TV / Projector is on a power outlet with different ground potential than your console, and you connect the HDMI cord, the potential difference between the console and TV might cause a ground loop, which induces noise that could interfere with the
    WiFi.

Or the place you put the console with the longer cable might be in a place where "passive interference" (i.e. WiFi radio waves reflecting off of metal parts in your house like rebar, plumbing or furniture cancelling out WiFi waves) in that particular spot
where the console is now placed with the 2m cable.

If you are able to connect both console and TV to the same power strip on the same power outlet together with the 2m HDMI cable, and WiFi then works, please contact your local electrician to have them check your house's ground circuits, and to make sure
that there is no potential difference between different power outlets.
