    HDMI audio...

So, I finally got the xbox one to play 5.1 by using the hdmi input on a different receiver I picked up. The problem is, the sound comes out of the wrong speakers! I play the xbox 360 through the receiver, and everything is where it should be in 5.1. The
xbox one puts it in the wrong speakers, and I see no way to change this. Any ideas?

    :)

    HDMI Audio help.

I want to get the best audio I can out of my Xbox One. I have a 5.1 system but my Xbox One is hooked up into my TV. Whenever I click 5.1 in Audio it says it can't do 5.1. What's the next best step? Bitstream with Dolby Digital?

    HDMI audio...

After spending awhile chatting with support (and getting nowhere), I was told to unplug everything , plug it back in, and let them know when it was on. While doing this, the chat was ended. Back to square one. The audio is not coming through the proper speakers.
It is messed up on everything too.... blu-ray, games, streaming video. This is ridiculous.

I know you say it is working with your 360, but are you sure your speaker wires aren't switched at the receiver? Which channels are coming from which speakers (e.g. Left channel from Left rear speaker etc.)? (You can use various DVDs/BluRays and some games
to play individual channels one at a time). What model is your receiver?

The speaker wires are where they should be. they are even color coded. Works fine with Xbox360 and standalone bluray player. The tone test on the surround system itself is also correct. The xbox one is the only piece of gear that is playing the channels
all mixed up. It is an Rca rt2911.

I tried one of those tests, and the results seem odd. The left and right seem okay, but the rear surrounds play in the front left and right channels as well. The center and subwoofer are not there. But, that is only during the test. Playing the bluray yields
a different result it seems. At times I am hearing the left and right channels, but then at other times they sound more like an echo while the main sound is coming through the rear speakers. The center speaker has sound, but it is not the center channel, so
voices disappear a lot. No true subwoofer sound, just a mix of the other stuff it seems. Basically, it sounds like the audio is not being steered in the right direction (you know, the job that Dolby Digital and Pro Logic usually do), and takes off in different
directions at will. This unit just keeps getting better and better. Microsoft said that any hdmi surround system, including Dolby only units, would be able to play the uncompressed hdmi audio. that is why I grabbed this unit. They were wrong I guess.

And, for the billionth time, this is a crappy thing to have to deal with. There is a reason that Dolby is a standard. EVERY surround system out there can do Dolby. Not every one of them does dts. Not every one of them handles the uncompressed audio the same
way it seems. Not all of them have HDMI in. But they ALL handle Dolby the same way. It is a worldwide standard, and a must. So, what does Microsoft do? They drag their butts on delivering Dolby. I guess there is more than one reason the PS4 is outselling the
Xbone by an almost 2/1 ratio. If Microsoft can't start ironing out the basics and making people happy, that ratio is going to grow.

It does sound like your receiver may not properly support uncompressed multichannel PCM, which is actually the fault of the receiver as that is standard also and works fine with a proper receiver (at least one other person has reported a similar problem
with an RCA). If your RCA has different processing modes, try them and see if it helps. When it comes to receivers, my advice for the future is to stick with quality brands that offer a full lineup from budget to mid- to high-end (Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc.)
and generally stay away from home-theater-in-a-box solutions. I know that may not help much now and hope MS is able to add DD 5.1 for you and others who need it.

I find it hard to blame it on the receiver when everything else I have works flawlessly with it. The only thing that doesn't is the xbox one. You think maybe this all boils down to a very bad choice on Microsoft's end? Dolby is the worldwide industry standard.
Has been for a long time. Do you honestly think if they had included Dolby you would be seeing all these messages of people upset with the audio choices, and so many people not having surround sound? You wouldn't. Because surround would be working on every
    system out there.

As to which brand I stick to, that shouldn't matter. All receivers, from budget to high end, ALL support Dolby. I am not going to spend more on the off chance that a company like Microsoft drops the ball.

PS4 came out first and somehow found a way to include, even before they added 3d Bluray! Sony obviously knows the importance of Dolby and didn't take a chance by leaving it out. No wonder they have sold over 5.2 million units. I really wish I had of gone
with them. If I had not already bought digital version of games, that I can't get a refund or sell, I would be putting the xbox one on ebay.

  10. Do you think this audio issue is a software or firmware issue?

When I got the Xbox One, I assumed that basics such as audio would be sorted. I battled and Googled the issue - but was horrified to see that many had issues with sound output with the 'entertainment hub'. Starting 2016 and the issue is still there...

What's sad is this is now a mature product and not some fly by night company. We don't want work arounds, transcoding or pseudo surround. My issues are :

    1. When selecting bitstream, you shouldn't have to select a format ie DD or DTS. No other system I've used makes you select the format on bitstream. It should send the data to the reciever without touching it and let the reciever decide and decode, whether
    stereo, DD or DTS

    2. The HDMI in should have a passthrough or bitstream option as well, where the audio on whatever is connected simply passes to the amp to decode

I have video but no sound

Have you checked the audio output settings on the console?

    Go to settings,

    select Display & Sound

    select Audio Output

and there you will see a choice of either HDMI audio or optical audio.

Check to make sure HDMI audio is selected

As if it`s set to optical you will not get an audio output through the HDMI cable.

    XBox One w/ Receiver Setup

    My set up will be:

Cable Box HDMI out to Xbox One HDMI IN, Xbox One HDMI out to Receiver HDMI In, Receiver HDMI out to TV HDMI in, Receiver Audio out to Speakers

So the Cable audio/video goes to the Xbox One, Xbox One send that and/or it's audio/video to the Receiver, Receiver sends video to TV and audio to Speakers

It seems like that's what you're describing, so I'm not sure why you think audio is being left out anywhere.

S/Pdif to RCA Audio Adapter for Xbox One

Xbox One has 2 outputs - one HDMI and one Optical Audio (s/pdif). HDMI carries both audio and video. But if you want to send your audio to a receiver that does not have HDMI inputs, then you can use the optical output from Xbox One. PS4 is exactly the
    same.

And William is right - if you try converting HDMI to DVI, you will lose the audio on both Xbox and PS4 (unless you are using the separate optical output for audio).
