    Hdmi Audio Only

    Hi!

I have a Samsung HW-K550 Soundbar with Wireless surround sound speakers and Subwoofer. I was browsing online and noticed an HDMI cable will deliver better audio quality. This is the reason for my post. I'm trying to not use my Optical cable and use HDMI
only through my sound bar for better audio quality. I tried hooking up my Xbox through my TV, and my sound bar to my TV, but it didn't work. I have an older TV, a 2010 LG, and the original Xbox one. I'm just trying to make sure the audio quality is the best
when watching movies and playing games. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    :)

Audio over HDMI with the Xbox 360 Audio adapter?

In the description on Xbox 360 HDMI Cable | Connect the Xbox 360 HDMI Cable it says:

"If both cables are plugged in, the Xbox 360 console transmits audio over the audio adapter and video over the HDMI cable."

Does this mean that the audio will ONLY be transmitted over the audio adapter and ONLY video on the HDMI cable?

Or will the HDMI signal include both video and audio?

I find the description a little lacking.

Audio quality on optical and HDMI are practically the same, since they both deliver audio digitally (it sends perfect signal, or no signal at all).

The one main difference is that HDMI has the additional bandwidth to support
    lossless
audio with Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HDMA, something of which is likely favored by the "audiophile" crowd, and may not exactly be noticeable to everyone else.

If you're having problems with the soundbar's HDMI passthrough, you'll need to find the appropriate troubleshooting documentation on Samsung's website and manuals to see if there's a solution. Or, just simply use optical.

  5. I am also having this problem just with a nice LG 4k tv with a pioneer vsx 80 receiver. I can watch 4k media no problem threw HDMI I get video and audio and when I go to watch a normal bluray movie I get no video and I get all the audio. I have to take
the bluray out and restart my xbox to get the video to come back on.

audio on tv not working with a 480p old samsung tv

You using HDMI? Could be the setting on the xbox is only sending audio to headset and not to the tv on HDMI

360 hdmi to tv optical to soundbar producing no sound. Xbox one also hooked via hdmi works fine.

Hi, if you swap the hdmi connections over on the tv so the xbox 360 uses input 1 and the xbox one uses input 2 do you then get audio from the xbox 360 and not the xbox one ?

Some hdmi inputs only accept the video signal and not the audio which would explain why you only get audio from whichever device is connected to the hdmi port on the tv which accepts both video and audio.
