HDHomeRun Tuner and Media Drive with Movies

There is a media player out there called Kodi. Before it was named that, it was called XBMC, which stood for Xbox Media Center.

That seems to imply that the Xbox can work as a media center.

I know there is a USB device I can purchase to plug into my antenna and the Xbox to watch Live TV, but I already have an HDHomeRun Extend dual tuner.

I also have a 4-TB USB 3.0 drive that I store our ripped DVDs on.

Is there any way to watch TV through the HDHomeRun or watch my movies off the hard drive through the Xbox One?

Everything I seem to find on the Xbox revolves around watching online content, and the online speed in my area maxes out at 768 kbps (too slow to stream videos).

    :)

So no Media Center Extender stinks ....

but why can't you make it a Media Center from our HDHomeRuns our Xbox360s?

Receiving "Copying Prohibited" message on XBox Media Center

Microsoft's press release about Media Center on the XBox clearly states that an Exctnder should be able to play copy-once and Live TV content from my Windows 7 PC. If this is correct, then there is a definite problem here. If I start watching live TV and
navigate to CBS HD, I get the dreaded "copying prohibited" message on my XBox. This content plays fine on my Windows 7 Ultimate PC. Also, once I've navigated to a copy-once channel, all subsequent channels give me the same message until I turn off and turm
back on the Xbox. After that I can watch TV on the Xbox until I navigate to a channel that is copy-once.

I'm running everything on a local network and I'm using the HDHomerun Prime with a CableCard to tune in TV.

I can't find anything about updates to Win 7, the HDHomerun or Windows Media Center that might solve this problem.

Currently live TV with the Hdhomerun isn't an option. At some point Silicon Dust is supposed to release an Xbox One app that will work with their tuner and new DVR software, but they're waiting for MS to update something first (I forget the details at the
moment). I think it will also require that they're DVR software is running on your local network, which costs $30/year.

I haven't tried before, but there should be a way to watch your movies and other media if it's stored on an external drive or one that's connected to your network.

    Xbox One and Media Center

Agree 100% The TV tuner doesn't need to be built into every XBox One but jeez work the HDHomeRun and Ceton folks. If we buy a USB-based DCT from them, it should just plug in and allow the Xbox One to be a "TV" DVR. FWIW I could give a rip about the game
DVR feature. I love Media Center but honestly I only use the Live TV/Record TV (DVR) functionality. Well, OK I also have a WHS set up to serve ripped DVDs via the Movie Library feature. But I do not use WMC for Photos, Music or Apps (ie Netflix) anymore.
Without true "TV" DVR support - to call the Xbox One the "ONE" box for family room entertainment is an effing joke - and a bad joke at that.

TWC App. Replace ur set top cable box. Cool

TWC App requires a "compatible set top box".

The real way to get rid of the set top box fees (for 3 DVRs the savings on TWC is $105/month), is WIndows Media Center streaming to XBOX 360, with an InfiniTV or HDHomeRun Prime tuner, which you can't do with the XBone.

And to whoever said "it is $12 for the rental" -- look at your bill more carefully. When I last used TWC rentals it had the following line items repeated for
    each DVR:

    $13 DVR "service"

    $13 DVR rental

    $5 guide data

    $5 service duplication fee

    Watch movies from External USB

    Hey mate,

Should be as simple as moving the movies to your USB, then going to the Media Player app on the xbox and playing the files.

The only thing is that you can't have your games and your movies on the same drive. You can either format a drive for media, or you can format it for games :)

    Cheers

    Media Center Extender Functionality

As a stand alone media player, you are correct. It's worthless. As an extender to a windows media center with a Ceton infinity cablecard tuner, it's amazing
