HDD Causes some kind of network error?

I've got an Xbox 360 S with 120Gb HDD. For some reason whenever the HDD is plugged in, and the system is connected to a network (wired or wireless) everything just crawls! I'm talking 10 minutes just to start, 3-4 minutes at least to sign in to my xbox
live account. I'm not joking either, I sat there with a stopwatch. Also, nothing will update. No system updates will work, so game updates, nada. I get an error message, and a status code that looks something like this

    4174-0000-D080-0200-8007-045D
    Any thoughts anyone?

    :)

  2. The game couldn't start. Try downloading the game again.

Hey D0UG, have you had a chance to try and different HDD (such as a friend's) on your console? There are some counterfeit drives floating around online that look very much like official drives, and they can cause this kind of issue. By trying a friend's
HDD, we can rule that out as a possibility.

HDD Causes some kind of network error?

The issue lies with the hard drive. There is no 120 GB hard drive for the S or E consoles. There is only a 250 or 320 GB hard drive.

Sounds like you have a modded drive that is not compatible with the console. I think you'll find increased performance when you remove it and purchase the proper official hard drive.

I bought a generic brand 120 GB hdd from amazon in january, it has worked fine up until about a week ago, so I don't think it's the hdd itself, possibly some corrupted system file? It works if i'm not connected to the network. I just tried deleting and re-downloading
the system updates, but if that doesn't work can you think of anything else? besides buying a new one?

The fact still remains that the drive is a modded drive not originally intended for use with the console that you have and could result in the console being banned from the Live service if you are caught.

As the drive is not an officially supported drive and is modded for use with your console you will be unable to get any further assistance on the forums if you continue to use it as discussions regarding modding or modded items is against the ToU of the
    forums.

Xbox 360 HDD preventing game from reading

If it gives you a disc is unreadable error, then the game is having a read error. The console assumes that the HDD will always have proper (no error) reads. If the game is on your HDD and it gives you that error, it could mean your HDD is starting to flake
out. If the game is read off of the disc, then something else is causing it to give you the error. Free up some room on your HDD and try to install the game.

Games Send Me To Home Screen!!! Why?

What is also interesting to note here is how both of those games are online only multiplayer games. To that end, I'm wondering if maybe you're running into some kind of network error/hiccup that's causing you to lose connection to the game which is causing
an error that causes the game to crash. Just curious, but do you have any other games you could try, something that doesn't even require an internet connection by chance?
