HD question (old 360 with external drive)

Hi, I have an old 360 with a 120 GB HD. It's pretty much full up now due to Games with Gold. I was thinking about buying another HD for the other games that will be released free. The question I have is, am I going to be able to pop one HD out and put in
another to play a game saved on my other HD? Is it going to work with my Live gamertag gathering achievements and such? I want to save downloaded games on each HD and change up the HD depending on what I want to play. Am I going to have to use the transfer
cable moving games back and forth between my main HD and my other one?

:)

External hard drive for the xbox 360

So, my 360's hd is getting pretty full and I'd like to take advantage of the new external hd option. My question is will the following hd work with the 360?

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expan...&sr=8-12&keywords=external+2tb+USB+hard+drive

I see they mention it can be used with the Xbox1 but they don't mention the 360, and I just want to make sure it will with for the 360 before I buy it.

Also, if anybody has recommendations for other brands besides this one feel free to share. I'm new to the use of external drives so would appreciate any incite you might have in regards to brands or what works best with the 360.

3. External HD with XBox 360?

I want to use an external HD with my 360. However, the 360 only supports up to 32 gig. Can I repertition the external HD into multipule 32 gigs so i wouldn't have just wasted my money? Example: I take a 1 terabyte external drive and make 31 partitions
of 32 gigs a peace? I hope this makes sense. thank you

HD question (old 360 with external drive)

You can only replace your 120Gb hard drive with another official Xbox hard drive for the same console (not the newer 360's). This may be difficult because they may be hard to find now, as they have been out of production for
a while. Those hard drives are also quite expensive.

An alternative that you could consider is to use a USB memory. You are able to plug two USB memory sticks (maximum 32Gb each) into the 360, and use them.

Also, you may want to consider deleting downloaded games that you have finished. You have the option to redownload that game for free at any time, if you want to play it again.
The question I have is, am I going to be able to pop one HD out and put in another to play a game saved on my other HD?
You will only be able use saved games from the hard drive that is currently in the system. You won't have access to the stuff on the other hard drive.

Swapping hard drives back and forth is something I would not recommend you doing. There is a risk of corrupting the data by doing that. If you are to get a larger hard drive, you should just move all of the data to that hard
drive using a transfer cable. http://support.xbox.com/en-AU/xbox-360/accessories/set-up-transfer-cable
Is it going to work with my Live gamertag gathering achievements and such?
Yes. Everything on your Xbox Live gamertag is online, and is not connected to the hard drive. It will carry over to whatever console, or whatever storage device you chose to use.

No. As I said earlier, "hot swapping" hard drives can corrupt the data, making the content useless.

To address this particular question. A transfer cable will move
EVERYTHING from one hard drive to another, and will delete everything on the hard drive you chose to move the content to. There is no way to use the transfer cable to move individual games between hard
drives.

Xbox 360 usb ports live all the time even when Xbox 360 is off?

Hi there Dave,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about the issue with using an external drive for more storage on Xbox
360. As per your question above, it varies on the drive. For example, if the External HD is only USB this will be powered by the console. If the External HD has a USB and power cord then the source is coming from the plug and not the console.

I recommend taking a look at the following articles:

yes it's usb only so I guess it's power on all the time.Thankyou for the answer to my question.

How do I move files from a dead/RROD 360 to a new one?

you just remove said HD from the RROD system and connect the cable one end goes to your drive the other the 360. just make sure you get the correct cable if your going from old 360 to the slim that cable works now if your going slim to slim you need the
cable that has connectors on one end for the internal slim HD or the external clip on fat HD.
