HD DVD Player not reading discs

multi-format drives designed to read both (I have two).



Beyond the physical inability to read an HD DVD in a Blu-ray drive, there's the issue of software. HDi Interactive Format was the standard used to create HD DVD menus and other content on-disc outside of the actual movie files. Blu-ray uses scripts and Java.
Unless playback software can understand HDi Interactive Format, HD DVD menus won't work and the disc won't play.



If it was possible for Blu-ray players to play HD DVD, people wouldn't be holding onto HD DVD drives.

The 360 does not use HD-DVD's, it uses regular dual-layer DVD's. It had the HD-DVD player add-on years ago, but that tech failed. The X1 could read 360 DVD's just fine, but it wouldn't be able to process the code since it's completely different.

Only burned discs use dyes. Discs are stamped onto thin aluminum sheets and if the disc is not sealed properly, the aluminum layer oxidizes and becomes unreadable over time.

While you may have only had it since 2014, they discontinued them back in Feb 2008 so technically, it was at least 13 years old.

How strange, I've only had this player since 2014 (it was my second one after my first one died) and it's hardly been used, Now I've had two that have had the same issue it looks like it's a common problem and these drives aren't meant to last very long.
