  1. HD-DVD player app for Xbox one

I have a few old VHS, Betamax, Laser Disc and HD-DVD movies. Probably every one I could get on Blu-ray (or a movies by internet service if I had enough bandwidth to stream in.)

I have I know there's lots of issues with the first three formats playing on Xbox One, among the most obvious being physical differences of the first two being tape versus disc and the third one being an analog picture and sound with gradual grooves instead
of bits that reflect and absorb light. If there's a solution that involves buying an add-on house broadcaster I'm just telling you to you so that these things could come in handy.

Specifically for the HD DVD player, the reason why I'm writing on Xbox forum and not a typical movie forum is because my HD DVD player is the Xbox 360 HD DVD player.

I noticed that my Xbox One (being a movie player)my PlayStation 3 (when being a movie player) and a dedicated 4K Blu-ray player my dad has (which cannot avoid being a movie player) can seem to use each other to play movies. The feature doesn't seem particularly
handy if all three have a Blu-ray device, all do and two of them have 3D players and two of them have 4K disc players (which the PlayStation 4 still doesn't have, not even the Pro). but what would have been handy to me is the find one or two solutions to help
me play HD DVDs on dad's big screen TV.

The two possibilities I could think of is either if the Xbox 360 can talk to those three other machines using something I believe that is called DLNA, or if the Xbox One to load a hypothetical app called Red Player.

Someone told me that the Xbox 360 used to be able to work on the network like that but Microsoft erase that feature on existing Xbox 360 s. If that's the case then maybe we could selectively do it just for HD DVDs.

Also I heard that at the tail end of the movie format War there were a couple companies trying to unify the red and blue armies one was Warner Brothers making a combo disc with one side being the right side in the other being the blue side with Superman
Returns. I heard literally one day before the release date of this combo disc the backers of hd-dvd of which Microsoft was one of them wave the white flag of surrender.

the other thing was LG made separate red players and blue players and decide to combine them in a combo player.

I heard that CDs and DVDs and those two premium formats are all very similar but have slight variations. If one had a programmable optical disc turntable which spot at different speeds and a programmable laser which was to double to various different frequencies
/ sizes, one could theory make a universal player for all those. Even if there was a 30 cm disc the original Laser Disc format may have been even playable too.

I assume the Xbox does have a tunable laser and a tunable turntable. if that's the way you added Blu-ray player to Xbox One by app maybe someone could use a similar app called ready Player and tune the laser in the turntable to the right speed the play
HD DVDs and then be an HD DVD player and all it would cost would be whatever the cost of developing the program would be.

I know I might not understand a few things, like what the terms were for quote Losers of the war like Microsoft, Universal, and Paramount, that you guys had to agree to in order to join the Blu-ray Union? I might see there could be a clause where hd-dvd
might be a band format for any player in the Blu-ray Union.

I could understand the production of new HD DVDs but I thought we shouldn't just throw around HD DVDs like they're silver frisbees basically being useless unless you want to physically drag a new player along with your Blu-ray and other stuff.

If neither of those are possibility than the third possibility is a way for both an Xbox 360 as well as avhs beta and LaserDisc player relatively close to each other can enter the DLNA Network by external device. and can I assume that the DLNA network is
to a both being able to send and receive or they need a separate receiver to receive the dfna discs from Blu-ray upstairs?

If bad comes to worse I got an option that's no longer manufactured an analog UHF local in-house transmitter. that should work as long as I have analog tuners on my TV which I do. now literally the only use for analog tuners is that device and old video
game systems like the Atari 2600 Intellivision and ColecoVision using the original hardware.

    :)

    HD DVD Support

    Hi Ouligars!

Unfortunately, the Xbox will not play HD DVD's without the Xbox HD DVD player. I have one and they are certainly hard to find these days. If you have the Xbox HD DVD player, then a HD DVD app will appear in the Video tab. As far as I know, non-Xbox HD DVD
players are unsupported on the 360.

Of course, if you meant you found the Xbox HD DVD player, then as stated above, you will find the app for it in the My Video tab... Hope this helps!

I regret to inform you that Xbox 360 S console cannot play HD DVDs. You still need to have an HD DVD player for you to be able to play HD DVDs. However, Microsoft Xbox does not sell Xbox 360 HD DVD player anymore.

    Blu- Ray 3D & HDDVD

I actually have the Xbox HD-DVD player and a decent library of movies. Is the HD-DVD player not compatible with the Xbox One? Its not really that big of a deal if it isn't it just would have been nice.

    HD-DVD Player On Xbox One

I hear you loud and clear. I just want to plug in my 360 HD DVD player to my One and have it play my old HD DVDs too.

I've heard that people have gotten it working on Windows. Xbox One has the ability to run certain Windows 10 apps. Now, my thought is, I wonder how difficult it would be to make a player that works on Windows 10 and Xbox One?

I don't know if Xbox One limits interfacing with USB plug and play devices. My guess would be they probably do as a matter of security. I don't know if you can write a driver for an external device and run it on an Xbox One from an "HD DVD Player" app.

I whole-heartedly agree with you, and would also love to see Microsoft include 360 HD DVD support on the One. It would be an awesome Easter egg for Xbox loyalists and a big milestone in their backwards compatibility movement (which I just love, btw.)
