HD DVD drive activity light just blinks quickly.

I upgraded my RROD refurbished LOUD model for a new 'e' model.

When I plug my HD DVD drive into it using all of the same cabling that it came with and now the acting light, on the eject button, just blinks very fast.

It will play DVD movies, but not HD DVD ones, nor does the memory show up under storage as it had before.

Any suggestions or downloads that I have to do?

HD DVD software/drivers available? I lost my disc

When I plugged in the unit to the other 360 the green light blinks. When I try to play a disc it says cannot communicate with HD DVD player. But eventually it stops blinking and it works. Weird...

 

i purchased a WD 4TB external drive for more storage....

The light indicator indicates the drive is on (solid no blinks), slow blinking (can be seeking or correcting files), and then normal fast blinking as it's being accessed and data is being written to it.

That's normal the lights just mean the various states of usage, if there is no light when it's powered on start worrying.

 

HD DVD is a long dead format...I'm not even sure if the new consoles support that as an accessory...try calling Microsoft Xbox Support and see what they say.

 

Yes I am aware that this is a dead format, that's not the question. According to the research that I had done previous to buying the XBOX 360 e, said that it would.

While I appreciate your observation that it is a "long dead format" I'd really like to keep this thread focused, and maybe I could get an actual answer.

 

That was my answer. I'm not sure if it's supported by newer consoles and firmware/dashboard updates. I would contact Xbox support directly, as information on this subject isn't readily available.

A friend of mine has the HD-DVD player and claims that it still works with his Xbox 360S. Sadly, yours may be in need of repair but I wouldn't know who could do such repairs.

 

That is a bummer, it will still play DVD movies and audio CD's just fine.

Oh well, I'll see if I can get another one cheap!
