Having trouble with a game code

So a friend gifted warhammer vermintide 2 to me and it didnt let me enter it on the console. It said something went wrong. Check the introctions that came with your code. So I looked up other people have these problems and an XBox person said to try doing
the code on the XBox app, so I did that and had no problems doing that but it's not popping up in my library and the app says the code has been redeemed now but it's not in my game library.

It might just be a time thing because I went to eat and it started installing so try it again now

My husband gifted Monster Hunter Iceborn to my son. He tried to redeem the code and it keeps telling him to check the instructions that came with his code. We have tried redeeming it on his phone as well, with no luck. If anyone has any idea how to redeem
this code it would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!
