Having trouble returning to Home screen.

Not sure what's up here. For the last day or two I've been having this problem. I can usually get into apps just fine, but once I'm in when I decide I'm done and hit the Home button to return to my dashboard...

Well, it's not really reliable. Sometimes it takes me right back, no problems. Other times it just sits there for about 30 seconds then pops up an error message saying that it's not working and "if you keep seeing this, try power-cycling your XBox" (paraphrased).
Sometimes I can just cancel and try again and it'll take me back, other times only power-cycling fixes it, but even then it just starts doing it again after a while.

This has never happened to me before a couple days ago.

If its been a long time since you've been online, the information they use to verify will probably be out of date. Might want to scrounge up old info if you can't remember it.

Several (~4?) years ago I had an xbox live account. I let it go inactive because I wasn't using it enough to warrant a membership fee. Recently my admittedly very old original 360 red ringed and I figured it was time to buy a new one. I put the old HD
on a newer model I bought and was able to sign into my profile just fine without an internet connection. Eventually, i decided to check out the xbox live marketplace so I plugged in the interweb, did a couple updates to the xbox software and when all that
was finished, tried to sign on to my original profile. Lo and behold, I was unable to do so! The message it told me was that I needed to sign into a windows live id to sign onto this console. Originally, I thought "no problem! I'll just use my email I use
for everything!" but it didn't work and said it was incorrect. I thought perhaps I used my "real", "professional" email address so I tried that as well, to no avail. After some thought, I was wondering if I even made a windows live id when I first got onto
xbox live? I don't know, to be honest. That was a long time ago. I'm able to sign into my profile just fine without an internet connection, and was told to check the account settings to see what my WLID account was, but when I go to the account settings
they are greyed out and I cannot select them. I can make new WLID's and gamertags just fine (obviously, or else I wouldn't be posting) but I would really like to access my original profile as I don't want to lose any of my saved games. Little help?

Okay, it seems like my XBox missed an update somehow. I forced the update and now it seems to be fixed.

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support. I want you not to worry about the situation because I am here to help you out! I believe your console might need either a network reset or just a system refresh. I would like you to go through the following
steps to clear the Mac address and then perform a quick power cycle on your console:

Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

After going through the troubleshooting steps mentioned, I invite you to perform a quick power cycle by turning off the console and then unplugging all the cables. After 2 to 3 minutes, re-plug them back again, then restart your console.

Another thing you should check is your NAT type. I would like you to check your NAT type if open because that could sometimes interfere. to check for the NAT type you can follow the steps below:

Settings > Network Settings > NAT type => It should be open.

If the NAT type is not open, you will need to open some ports with your internet provider. These ports must be open for Xbox Live to work: Port 88 (UDP) Port 3074 (UDP and TCP) Port 53 (UDP and TCP) Port 80 (TCP) Port 500 (UDP) Port 3544 (UDP) Port 4500
(UDP).

In case the issue still persists, the next step would be to perform a reset on the console. To do so you will need to follow the steps below to perform a reset on the Xbox :

Settings > System > Console Info > Reset This Xbox > Reset and Keep my Games and Apps.

Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you
to sign in to the account.

I am also having this issue. It's been around for about a week now. I am in the Insider Program. It's very frustrating, is there any news on when it might be fixed? It's worth noting here that the Store, Mixer ect. are still accessible, you just have to
launch them in stead rather than seeing what's available directly on the dashboard. Hopefully it will get fixed soon!

Can you please confirm if you are in the Xbox Insider program? If you are in the insider program this is a known issue and is also affecting the Store tab on the console, The Insider team are working on a fix for the issue.

p.s.: I checked on my network setting, and its saying all services are avalible and open Nat.
