Having trouble getting Xbox One X to connect with Joey receiver for "Live TV' option

I just wanted to share this because I couldn't find anything about it anywhere, and I finally figured out how to get it straight.

WARNING: The solution turned out to be "user error" and will seem pretty common sense to most, but I am sure there are other people out there who are trying to run their Joey to/through their Xbox One X but are not able to get their XB1X to recognize the Joey.

Also, this is all about a trade-off if you want it to work. I wound up leaving my Joey run straight to my television. I am JUST NOW figuring this out after owning my XB1X for well over a year.

If you have an Xbox One X, its most likely because you want to game in 4K. Or at least that is a HUGE part of it. The problem here lies in the fact that until tonight, I did not realize that the Joey (at least the one I have) does not produce 4K resolution. The most Joey will give you is a 1080p resolution. SO... If you have your XB1X all setup and you have been gaming in 4K and then you try to run your Joey to the XB1X for "Live TV", the XB1X will only show a black rectangle where the Joey's signal should appear when you are trying to set it up in the XB1X menu. This is because the XB1X is set to display in 4K resolution, but the signal being sent from the Joey is 1080p. As of now, there is no "Auto" detect setting for signal in the XB1X display setup menu. You must manually select the ONE type of signal you want the XB1X to display, so if you have it set to 4K, you will not be able to get the video signal from a Joey set up to display in 1080p. If you want the Joey to work with the XB1X, you must change your display setting on the XB1X to 1080p. This is why I just left my Joey hooked up to my TV instead of using the XB1X as I had intended, because I do not want to drop my gaming resolution from 4K to 1080p.

**As a side note, I had a similar issue with my soundbar, which has "through/ARC" connections. The "through" connection does not support 4K, only 1080p, so when I ran the XB1X to the soundbar and then connected it to the TV, I got no signal because the soundbar could not produce the 4K signal sent from the XB1X. So what I ended up doing was buying an optical cable and running it from my TV's optical output to my soundbar and leaving everything else connected as it was. You have to go through the settings menu in the TV and the XB1X and make sure that you switch their audio output to Bitstream Dolby Digital (or DTS), depending on what your TV uses (just make sure the XB1X and the TV's output signals match) in order for this to work. And on the XB1X you want to switch BOTH the HDMI and OPTICAL signals ON and set them to Bitstream Dolby Digital (or DTS) as well. I know that sounds weird, but its the ONLY way I could get it to work. For the longest time, I had my surround sound system connected, but I was only getting an uncompressed stereo signal, not Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. When I hooked it up this way and got the settings right, I was FINALLY able to turn on my soundbar and play my games in 4K with the **** super loud Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound kicking as well. The surround sound takes gaming up a notch, I don't care what anyone else says, it changes things from just playing a game, to a gaming EXPERIENCE. It's the way games are meant to be played!**

    :)

    Cant control Dish Network Joey

So, DISH support will still tell you that the Joey does not have IR, which is false. Here is how you can get your Xbox one to control the Joey. This is the IR method. It should work via HDMI CEC, but for my setup it won't.

    • On your Joey. Menu - Settings - Remote Manger - IR - enable
    • The IR receiver on the Joey is on the horizontal bar between the power button and system info button
    • Plug an IR blaster into the IR port on your Xbox One
    • Tape the IR extender over the IR receiver on the Joey
    • Go into XBOX settings and select the Dish Joey as your receiver
    Controls should work!

Do you have connected the Xbox One X directly to your Onkyo receiver or you have connected the console to the TV and use HDMI ARC for the receiver?

    4k UHD not working

I have same issue on Xbox one X. Spent 1 hour on a call with Netflix and they say all the prerequisites are there for it to work. Right account type and great connection speed. They say it’s good at their end. Microsoft couldn’t help either. They said
    contact Netflix

I am connected through an onkyo receiver. There is no upscaling activated anywhere and resolution coming out of tv is 3840 x 2160 but I still don’t get 4k options on Netflix it’s hd option only
