    I know this was a problem when microsoft used points but since they switched to actual cash and dropped the points can i use the 10 dollars in my account to purchase xbox live

    here     it says some users might be having problems with purchasing things from the marketplace. So that's probably why.

    I'll give this thread a crafty bump in the hope someone can help.

    I'm not totally sure myself, I have a feeling you can't use credit in your account to buy Xbox LIVE, I only use Xbox LIVE codes purchased from places like GAME etc and bank debit/credit cards.

    I did try use the search function of this forum to find out but for whatever reason my browser seems to be drunk at the moment.

    Yeah, it's not possible to purchase gold with the currency on your account, just like it never was possible with points. You can only buy gold with a credit card/paypal or a prepaid gold card from a store.

    I have a problem with the purchase of Xbox Live Gold

    It is because you cannot use currency in your account to pay for a subscription. The only ways you have ever been able to purchase Xbox Live Gold is with credit/debit card, Paypal or with a prepaid Gold subscription card. There has never been a way to
    use currency or points to buy Gold.

    please try and hard reset your console by holding the power button on your console for 10 seconds and try again if that doesn't work please get in contact with someone at xbox customer support.
