Having issues with external devices for a long time

    Hi,

most of the times when i start my console both of my external ssds are not recognized. Usually unplug them and plug them back in once or twice is fiying the problem. But why is this required and what's the issue? I'm having this on different types of drives (SSD/HDD) on both my consoles. So it seem to me like this issue is inside the system. Any ideas what the issue might be and could you look for a fix? This seems like a small thing but quality of life wise it would make a huge differance.

    Thanks,

Nils (Sorry for any mistakes, english is not my mother language)

Original Xbox 360 loads dashboard slowly

Hi SpartanJackwar, my guess (could be a long shot) is that the Xbox 360 is having a hard time reading data from so many different storage units. Just to test, how quickly does your system boot with no external devices attached? With no external devices OR
    the HDD attached?

Xbox One and External Hard Drive (HDD) Install Issues

    Hi there,

if this keeps happening to the external storage device I would start to think that the external storage device might be having some (hardware) issues and could stop working at all any time soon.

I personally would get a different external storage device to see what happens when using that one.

Xbox power supply stuck on orange

So it's working as long as the External Drive isn't plugged in? That might point to the drive being the issue? That it's causing a short or drawing too much power? I'd recommend checking that drive on another device and see if it works there, or causes
    similar issues?

Does having other devices plugged into the USB slots cause issues? Other devices in that specific slot? If it's working without one specific device plugged in it points to the console and power supply it self as not being the root cause of the issue.

External HDD doesn´t work fine with Xbox Obe

And the arguments about the speed of the external devices is also "not relevant" for it's not the speed that's the problem, it's about the stress being put on a device that wasn't designed to run games for extended periods of time and will break down after
lengthy use. The "12 Million" number is considerably smaller in reality, but that's OK because most equate Consoles Shipped to Consoles Sold to boost the numbers. I'm sure if I looked harder I could find many more instances of XBOX users having difficulties
with External Storage but spamming is against the forum ToU. I don't have the time but there's very likely "thousands of complaints", I only provided one small slice from these forums, one that is 5 pages long and covers an extended period of time.

The OP even remarked on finding "a lot of users have same problems with external hdd" and has likely spent considerably more time searching for answers than you or I have. If an External HDD is your Primary HD for Gaming then it's only a matter of time
that the unnecessary stress on the device will cause it to fail long before it would've had it been used for what it was designed, and that's for storage not gaming. Even if your "12 Million" stat was accurate, you assume that all "12 Million" are using an
External HDD for extended hours of gaming, or that none of them understand the function of an External HDD and don't use it accordingly...:)

    external storage device issue

Hi Baddogdogbite! My name is Ricardo an independent advisor ready to help you with this situation!

Are you doing the formatting process on a PC? I'm guessing yes, so this error means that one partition it's damaged, so what you need to do is use the disk manager tool on Windows, delete the current partitions on the disk and then create new ones

If that doesn't work you should contact the manufacturer of that device as could still have warranty
