Having an issue with Optical Audio from Xbox One

Hello all. Running into an audio issue the last few days. Came here to pick some of your brains to see where the issue may be coming from. Here we go.....

My setup..

Boston Acoustics sound bar with wireless sub

I use my pc ,my Xbox one and ps4 on the same sound system. I have an optical audio selector that lets me switch between the components.

I did take the selector out of the conclusion by going straight from the optical output of the xbox one straight to my sound system and the issue still is present.

Now for the issue.

While playing i can hear the sub woofer cut in and out. It does this on all my xbox one games. Weird part is that the soundbar itself doesn't seem to cut out.

I called the Microsoft hotline and they seemed clueless. My pc and ps4 use the same sound system and they all run flawlessly. I am very confused at the moment. Any help appreciated.

Xbox one s 4k / audio cutting out every 30 secs

having some audio issues with my one s via home cinema, details below

UE48JU6400 = 4k Samsung TV

HT-J7750W = Samsung blu ray 7.1 home cinema 1080p with 4k upscale

Setup connection sequence - Xbox One S > HT-J7750W > UE48JU6400

Problem - Unable to set xbox to display 4K resolution but audio works fine

Setup connection sequence - Xbox One S > UE48JU6400 (Using ARC) > HT-J7750W - This allows the 4K with HDR settings to be available and display correctly

Problem - Audio cuts out every 30 seconds for 1 - 2 seconds

Troubleshooting carried out -

Switched audio to tv speakers, this resolved issue

Connected optical cable from Xbox One S > HT-J7750W, changed settings on xbox to allow optical audio still same issue

Tried another HDMI cabe from Xbox One S > UE48JU6400, still had same audio cutting out issue

so issue seems with the audio getting from the tv to the home cinema i would assume, anyone else having the same issue?

Additional Research of issue - Have looked in to this issue online and some people had the same issue with LG tv's which has now been resolved by a software update to their tv.

 

Cant activate 4k and 5.1 audio on Xbox one X get error 0x80bd0009

After talking with chat support, they told me it was better to post here the issue i have and LOTS of others are having aparently.

I now have the Xbox One X, with a LG 60UF850V tv (no hdr) and the TV connected with optical cable with a 5.1 home cinema.

When i had the One S, i had it working perfectly with 5.1 audio at 1080p resolution through HDMI cable.

But now with Xbox One X when i try to select 5.1 audio i get error 0x80bd0009.

I did some searching and apparently many others were having this issue on xbox one S and solution was changing Video Output from Automatic to HDMI. When i do this, i can only select 1080p resolution, not 4K. but 5.1 audio issue is solved

So with Xbox one X i can only use 4k or 5.1 audio.

Solution for now is connect optical cable directly on xbox, but i will lose 5.1 audio on TV apps, Playstation, Raspberry,...

I see people here with this issue for almost 2 years and still no fix or no word from microsoft about this

Sorry you're having issues with your audio on your Xbox One. It looks like you already did the first step which was removing the middle man with the audio switch box. Do you have any other optical receiver that you can test this on to see if you can
hear the audio? Doing that would help narrow down where the issue is. Also I would try multiple cables to see if you can get audio passing through the console.

First question. Have you gone through and selected the Optical Out to be the sound output on the console? To do this, press menu, go to settings, go to Display and Sound, then under audio select "Optical Audio".

Let us know if you've done all this, and if you can get audio through another optical audio device with another cable.

 

I have tried everything you have suggested. Like i said it only seems to lose the sub signal. The sub is wireless. I know it's not the sound system though because my ps4 and pc work great. I am really lost at this point.

Could you post the model receiver that you're using? Perhaps someone else had a similar issue. Do you have something else you could test this with? As you're getting some sound, it's working. We would just need to figure out if it's a compatibility thing,
or another setting somewhere.

Finally which optical setting are you using bit stream or stereo uncompressed? If you're using bit stream I would definitely try the stereo uncompressed option.
