Having a problem with my Xbox One and external drives

Thanks for the link. It shows some interesting information. Will have to review it completely. FYI, you can't format a drive that doesn't have a partition on it. The first thing that has to be done to a drive is partition it. However, most drives these
days come with a partition on them and are already pre-formatted. Sometimes deleting the partition and resetting it and reformatting will help to resolve some issues.

Okay so since the last time I posted I've tried two things to fix the drive not showing up as anything other than media storage.

The first was a factory reset, with no luck on that front. Still getting the same problem.

The second was the program that Cubsfan3493 posted about. That only partially worked. The system now lets me format the drive form the settings menu and sees the drive as games storage, but I still can't install anything to it. It keeps giving me the drive
is too small error and fails to transfer or copy games to the drive. The drive is empty and has 1.8 TB of free space.

Anything else I can try or is my system *** up in some weird way?

I am having trouble with my external hard drive on my xbox one and ever since that new update my xbox one wont recognize that my external hard drive is plugged in I have tried the trouble shooting steps and nothing seems to work and my external hard drive
is a 3.0 Toshiba external drive is this problem going to be fixed before its released to the general public because I want to play my games that are saved to that drive can anyone tell me if this problem is even being looked into at all

Hi there,

Have you tried using a different external drive (different brand even) to see if it does the same thing?

It will help to narrow down if it's the drive or the console.

I have and original Xbox One console that doesn't want to use read my external drive, but my One X has no problem with the drive. And it's a newer drive.

Seems to me that it is a problem with either the drive itself or the cable connecting the drive to the console.

If you have another external drive handy, try using the cable from your xbox external drive and see if it can connect to a computer or laptop. If it can, then its more than likely a problem with your external drive.

Alternatively, you could test your external drive on another xbox one console.

Do you mean from the setting menu on the system? If yes, I've tried that several times, but the system won't let me do anything to the drive after it sees it as media storage. The option to format the drive on the system is just missing from the menu.

Can you get to the drive to manage it? If so maybe you can format for games from there.
