Haven't been able to reinstall multiple games from xbox game pass for PC

Spoke with multiple customer support people and went though a hundred different things to fix it, last thing the agent told me to do was reinstall windows, and even that didn't work. Spent multiple days trying to get it to work.

Things to know:

Around the same time I was trying to troubleshoot my controller to work for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it was popping up two characters for one controller- someone said remove the xbox controller support through steam and then try it. During this time I closed and then reopened the game- not a short time but not a long time- and the game did not open up again. I tried to restart my computer and lo and behold- won't launch. Next step- reinstall game(not a large file game)- ERROR that generic error code 0x00000001 "try troubleshooting" Other games now are not working- Dead by Daylight and Fallout 4 say the same error. What would follow is a headache to even relive:

logged out of everything and uninstalled everything-xbox, companion, repaired MS store- then restarted-

then reinstalled and logged in store-xbox-reinstall still ERROR

Repaired Gaming Services

Checked updates- Checked if different time (and yes I checked to see if I didn't pay my subscription)

deleted these then reinstalled xbox from website:

1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices]

2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet]

The next step was to try and reinstall windows- did it. Took forever- didn't work.

The only thing that is bothering me is that I have two locations where the game could be installed at, but reinstalling shouldn't matter right? I even tried to reinstall on both drive options as well.

Please let me know if anyone has a suggestion, and thank you for your time.

Yeah, no dice. On the other user when I tried to download Dead By Daylight I got to 4% before it said it needed "Gaming Services" and to download that. Froze after hitting download on gaming services- I feel like maybe that is the root of the problem? When looking at the services app I noticed two services listed as "gaming services" but I tried on the new user and on admin. Feeling like I'm hitting a dead end here

So, are you receiving the 0x000001 error when you try to install any game on the Xbox app?
Is this happening on Windows 10 or 11?
And, when you said reinstall windows, do you mean perform an in-place upgrade or format your entire PC?

Could you try reinstalling Gaming services on that new user?

Right-click the Windows Start button in the lower-left corner of the main screen, and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
In the Administrator: Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:
Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers

In the same window, type the following commands and press Enter:
Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices" -recurse

Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet" -recurse

Restart your device.
Start the Xbox application. You should see a blue banner with the following message: "This app needs an extra component. Gaming Services is needed for playing some games. Administrator approval required. Install"
Select Install to reinstall Gaming Services.
Once installed, give it a new try

Yes now any game wont let me install from game pass nor reinstall.

Windows 10

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core 4.20 GHz

Ram 32 GB

Gigabyte 3070 8gb

On MSI b450 motherboard

The reinstall was not a reformat no- the previous advisor said to reinstall from said website https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Thanks for the extra info, it seems like you did the in-place upgrade

May I know if you tried creating a new local user to see if the issue persists there?

Also, please open Task manager > select more details > startup tab > disable everything there.
After that do this:

Press Windows button and type Services

On Services App from the list of results, press right-click and run it as administrator

Scroll to the bottom and find the following services:

IP Helper
Xbox Live Auth Manager
Xbox Live Game Save
Xbox Live Networking Service
Gaming Services

And do this with each of the services listed above:

Right-click over the service and select Properties.
Find the Startup type section and make sure it’s set to Automatic (if not, change it to automatic)
If the service isn’t started, click Start to start the services

Restart your PC and try again using the new user
