  3. Some people will just report someone because they did better and thought they hacked. Every report is looked at, but if there's no proof of wrongdoing, of course nothing will be done.

Okay, let's try this again, for clarity. I've reported some people for cheating, and seen them get banned for it. I've received text and voice messages from two gentleman, years ago, threatening to kill me. At this time, support locked my account because
someone kept calling pretending to be me, and these two gentlemen mysteriously now had information about me I never gave out, including my EXACT home address. Draw whatever conclusions you want from that, but all those complaints were legitimate, but the
two psychos are still playing as recently as today. So put aside the "if it wasn't acted on it wasn't legitimate" argument, as well as the "lack of proof" argument, and tell me if it works or not. I repeat from my earlier post, it works "sometimes".

back in the day you could have people report your tag and then it would automatically prompt you to change it. They should totally bring that back.

Actually thats not true, you would never get your name changed just because someone reported it.

The gamertag would have to be against the code of conduct for it to be changed.

BTW, you can change your name at any time..... It does cost 9.99 though.

you still get a free name change if it breaks the rules.... you just can't decide what its going to be.

I think they need enough people to report that person for it to work because someone could not like a player and report them for something they didn't do.

As already metioned,it only takes ONE report for someone to be investigated

I've filed one complaint, perhaps a week ago now, and I've been checking the guy/gal's profile since then. Nothing so far. I imagine because the Live service has millions of subscribers, and there are probably millions of reports, many erroneous. By sleuthing
online I discovered he's based in Brazil but his profile says United States. His Gamerscore has increased by a couple of thousand since I filed the complaint, I think. From 93000+ to 97000+

-- don't quote me on that, but it's rising fast.

I encountered him on RDR before the multiplayer went down again, and checked out his profile. It was his 100% Max Payne 3 that caught my eye first. It took me 50+ hours to get 600G on it, on my older GT so I was impressed to see it maxed. All of the achievements
are in impossible order, though, like he's managed to complete the game on all difficulties before even completing a chapter, and all done without time stamps, offline. Even the multiplayer achievements.

Same with Tomb Raider Underworld - has all the collectible achievements before the prologue achievement. Spartacus Legends - doesn't have the unavoidable tutorial achievement first. Various other games too. Dead Space 3 - has the collectibles without the
appropriate mission achievements. Assassin's Creed II - has the achievement for all weapons and upgrades, before "The Birth of an Assassin" achievement. List goes on.

He's seemingly, cleverly, left out one achievement each on multiple games so as not to get total completions probably all in one go, maybe to avoid detection/suspicion? I started this GT of late last year and have been dropping tons of hours into
games to get the Gamerscore up to about the same as my older GT. People could probably have done it faster, with easier games, but still. Completed 20 games, many are one or two achievements away from being completed. Still have a stack of games to attach
to the card that I maxed on my old profile, like Alan Wake, Mass Effect 3 etc.

It's annoying to see that this guy - who has several of the games I do - probably got the same reward in a few minutes of... douchery... that took me several months and hundreds of hours - Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen 120+ hours, for example - to do. lol

    Sic 'im, MS. Please. [>_0]

Checking to see if someone's been banned by checking the guy's profile? To test the system and see if it works like expected or not? As per the title of this very thread? I'd hardly call that "stalking" someone.

    Report and move on.

The "Move On" part is most important.

Having A vendetta against someone or, "checking the system" is NOT a valid reason.

A 6 paragraph random post is a bit obsessive at the very least.......

I didn't immediately file a complaint, it has to be said. I didn't know it was possible to hack the Gamerscore. But the order of this guy's achievements on games I'd played and 100%'ed, I was immediately suspicious. So when checking online I ended up at
Major Nelson's blog, and he described the pointers, and they were all there. Then I wound up at forums over at xboxachievements, and trueachievements, and a couple of posts there highlighted more indicators -- that were all there.

I also found a forum where gamers. Strike that. Cheaters... I mean cheaters... hacking profiles were giving tips on how to avoid getting caught. Like only doing a 1000G a week for example. Or - one this guy obviously didn't do - making the profile private
so, well, so a guy like me with an anally retrentive attention to detail, doesn't stumble on the games list and file a complaint. Heh.

I also found a couple of games media articles explaining Microsoft's policy of checking *every* complaint, along with a bunch of posts on this forum and in comments below the media articles about whether or not filing complaints is even an efficient means
of catching cheats. Apparently a great many people don't think it is. The OP here started his post pensively, because this topic has been covered so much, I suppose.

For myself, I get the scale of the service and the sheer number of subscribers and reports/complaints, so I don't expect miracles. Moving slowly is better than rushing and accidentally, potentially punishing paying subscribers, who haven't done anything
wrong. That would be bad for the Live service overall. Which, it has to be said, is a great service. {=D Some people are intent on *** it up though.

As to stalking. Not really. lol I Googled the guy's Gamertag before I filed the complaint and it cropped up in CoD leaderboards with the Brazil tags, and pretty much every friend on his card is Brazilian. I'm not rabidly checking up on his profile. Just
gauging how long it takes before he's brought down, dun dun dunnnnn. So I'll have a gander at his card every now and then, when I'm checking emails and browsing. My guess is his Gamerscore will be 120000+ maybe higher, before he gets slapped down.

It's a shame too, because the guy has legit achievements along with his ill-gotten ones, and he's also an early-adopter of the Xbox One, so is supporting Microsoft in that sense. But, meh, he's a cheater too, so...

I'm curious whether it works, I know my complaint was 100% valid, and it's easy enough to glance at a profile and see if it's still active. In my specific case, the complaint concerned my personal safety as well. Explain to me how that's not a valid reason
    to keep track and verify?
