Have Mandatory Installs Ever Been Fully Explained Why They're Required/Necessary?

So yeah, as the title says, I've been wondering this for quite some time now as to just why exactly mantadory installs are necessary now vs streaming the contents of which that are already on the discs. 1 could easily say it
may have something to do with the cloud, which I wouldn't know the exact details of, but I'm sure most everyone will be wondering just when we all hit our HDD limits seeings how there's no current way to view this info (that we/I'm aware lof, anyway), which
leads to another curiious ? Has there even been an exact limit/cap set on external storage devices space the system wil accept, and when? Leave a reply back with any possible info.

Is GTAV going to be on 2 discs on the 360?

I'm pretty sure its one, but a mandatory game install is required.

 

so you install the game then there is no need to put disk in again?

^ The PS3 required mandatory installs on all games so this is nothing new.

 

I believe it has something to do with Blu Ray streaming speed.

 

Considering the amount of data needed to be accessed, and how much slower it is to access that data on optical media as opposed to an actual HDD, I'd say that would be the biggest reason. Not to mention the amount of wear and tear that the optical drive
would go thru over the course of time when playing games. People already get upset when they have to send their console in, I could an even larger amount of RMAs going on as the result of playing games off just the discs.

The 360 had nowhere near the amount of data that some of these newer games have and could run the games just fine off of optical, but Take Dead Rising 3 on the X1 for example. The first update was 5 gigs. Second update was 13 gigs. Now mind you most of that
was updating existing game code that was installed on the HDD but still the over all install was close to 40 gigs. DR3 suffers no loading times now when going from one area of the map to another. I would think that you would see this huge amount of pausing
while you went from location to location while you loaded from the optical disc as opposed to the HDD. The read speed is so much faster on the HDD.

 

OK...... So then as to my 2nd ?, have Micro$oft even announced/outlined what the exact data limit/max storage will be allowed on external storage devices, and when?

[/quote]As for your 2nd inquiry, they stated that external storage is coming but haven't given a concrete date as far as I know. They did not put a cap on how much storage per device could be used. So if you have a 3 Terabyte (or larger) USB HDD, you will
be able to use it. From what I also read initially the USB ports on the console will take advantage of USB 3.0.

That's all the info I have at this time. I am hoping they update to allow this soon.

 

IGN claimed they maxed it out and they gave a number....I don't have the article but I'm sure you can google it.

[/quote]They maxed what out? With regards to the internal HDD the max storage on the 500 gig drive was 362 gigs actually able to be used for storing games and other content such as rented movies off their "xbox movies" app (or whatever it's called). Is
this what you are referring to?

[/quote]I wanted to make sure that I was talking about the same thing that you were. I needed some clarity to make sure I wasn't talking about something different. There is no need to be rude or a smart--- about it. With you being an Ambassador, I'd expect
more than childish remarks to a serious question.
