    Has anyone encountered error code 0x87e00196?


    Hello,

    I haven't been able to download gamepass games for 3 weeks. It says error and gives the code 0x87e00196. I have opened a ticket with Microsoft. They said they would get back to me, but it has been 3 weeks.

    Has anyone seen this code before? I tried uninstalling the Xbox app, but it didn't work.

    Try these steps additionally if needed.

    1. Right-click the Windows Start button in the lower-left corner of the main screen, and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
    2. In the Administrator: Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:

      Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers
    3. In the same window, type the following commands and press Enter:

      Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices" -recurse

      Remove-Item -Path "HKLM:\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet" -recurse
    4. Restart your device.
    5. Start the Xbox application. You should see a blue banner with the following message: "This app needs an extra component. Gaming Services is needed for playing some games. Administrator approval required. Install"
    6. Select Install to reinstall Gaming Services.
    7. After the installation is complete, you should be able to install and start games again.
    If Like me, the Gaming Services Prompt does not appear, run power shell as admin again and copy and paste this and press enter

    start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN This should reinstall the gaming services.

    And if you receive the dreaded 0x80242020

    I did some digging and found this on a Reddit post about it and it's working perfect for me. Installing to my HDD instead of my C: drive currently.

    • Either select the link under the message to go to Settings, or press the Windows key and selecting Settings > System > Storage. Select Change where new content is saved.
    • Using the menu under Where apps will be saved to, choose the drive you want.
    There are other posts regarding Credential Manager, I removed all Xbxl | Entries, Instead of Just the Xbxl|Device one

    Let's try a few things here. I know you said that you have uninstalled and installed Xbox App, but let's try it again removing all traces from it.

    First, see if Windows is updated:

    Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;
    Click Check for Updates;
    Click Download and Install Now option, if available (check for optional updates too);
    Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates.

    After that:
    - Completely uninstall Xbox App and Xbox Companion App (if you have both).
    - After that, Press Windows + R and type in "regedit". Press enter.
    - Search for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrectControlSet\Services
    - Delete "GamingServices" and "GamingServices.net" (if they're still there).

    - After that, click on Windows (or press Windows key on your keyboard) > Search for Credential Manager > Windows Credentials. Search for Xbl|DeviceKey, click on it and then Remove.

    - Restart Windows.

    - On your PC settings, Open Settings then System -> Apps -> Apps & features -> look for Microsoft Store and click it. The advanced options link will appear. Click it. On the next page, click on the Reset button to reset Microsoft Store to default settings.

    - Press the Windows button on your device or keyboard. Select Settings > Gaming > Xbox Networking > Fix it.

    - Finally, install Xbox App again. Open it and login to the correct Microsoft/Xbox account.

    Now games are downloading again. There are also steps for changing your windows update Delivery Optimization settings to absolute bandwidth and downloading from other PC's on the internet which speeds up slow downloads.

    Now even though the Xbox app says 8.8mbps The network performance for the app in task manager states around 40-50mbps
