I'm looking to change my current external for something bigger my question is has anyone bought a seagate backup plus the fast one that's 4tb and has it can you please tell me does it reduce load times and how it's been so far cause it's 2 hard drives stripped
in raid 0 and I haven't been able to find much info on the Internet about user owning any with there xbox one.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

    Seagate External Hard Drive

I recommend using an SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Seagate Expansion HDD; Instead of External Seagate Backup Plus HDD, that has embedded software partition on HDD for PC etc.

    Xbox One External Hard drive

Is the Seagate Backup Plus PORTABLE external drive too slow for the XB1?

Seagate sells the 4TB Xbox Game Drive. This drive looks very similar to its cousin the 4TB Seagate Backup Plus PORTABLE (and I write portable in caps because Seagate also sells the Backup Plus that is a bigger 3.5" external drive that needs external power while the portable model is driven by power from the USB 3 port itself).

When I got the drive I proceeded to format it on the XB1 and downloaded Gears of War 4 to it. The game launched without any problem but the music stuttered. I found this very strange and proceeded to move the game from the external drive to the internal on the XB1 and there the music and everything worked perfectly.

Has anyone tested one of the Seagate Backup Plus Portable drives on the XB1 for storing games on them? What are your results? I found this article on storagereview and it appears that the Xbox Game Drive is indeed a little faster on sequential read speeds than the Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB on the syntetic tests:
Seagate Game Drive For Xbox Review | StorageReview.com - Storage Reviews.
I would love to read some real use experiences.
    Thank you.

The Seagate runs at 5900 so it's not fast in the world of HD's it's just a little faster than most externals.

The only way you'll see an improvement in load times is by replacing the internal drive which voids the warranty on the console. External hard drives are for storage not for gaming. Even with 3.0 they'll never be as fast as the internal if everything else
is equal. Fantom makes a 7200 external (2TB) which if your going to game off an external would probably be your best bet.

The day I run out of room for games on my HD I replace the internal.

  5. Thx but not what I asked and the seagate is 2 5900 drives stripped in raid 0 with a data transfer rate of 250mbps wich USB 3.0 can sustain but again my question was has anyone been using this drive.

I'm assuming your talking about this drive......

    www.amazon.com/.../ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_t

I answered your question and if you look at the customers questions on Amazon you'll get the same answer, External drives are for storage not for improving performance. Even if you'd go with a 7200 I'd still be concerned about it running hot.

This is a console forum so you may find someone using an external to game off but I'd do a bunch more research elsewhere before taking their advice....if it were that easy to improve performance people wouldn't be tearing down their consoles and replacing
    the HD.

and I have done a lot of research lol I mean currently myself using a external western digital my passbook for my games wich did improve load times. It's already been tested that using a external for running your games will
be faster then using the internal and since I don't want to void my warranty I'm not replacing the internal drive I do understand a 7200 rpm drive would be better but I am also looking for a 3 to 4tb external wich those size drives are very hard to find with
7200rpm and as for the one external you recommended I've never heard of them so I'd rather stick to a company like seagate or western digital if I can.

You may very well get better performance with an external if you go with a significantly faster external than the internal but the problem is they aren't designed for it.

Fantom is a well known for their external drives and it's a quality product (plenty of reviews online). If your going to use an external for gaming then the Fantom has a big advantage,,,huge vents, Cooling with an external is an issue when gaming off it.
Dropping 250 bucks on a external and having it a fail from overheating would be painful.

  9. Hmm ok so this phantom drive would be faster then 2 drives stripped in raid 0? And if so wich phantom drive do u recommend I live in Canada so.

Raid 0 5900 vs Raid 1 7200.....for pure performance I'd give it to the 5900. The problem is the Raid 0 is going to generate more heat and my concern with an external is you'll greatly increase the failure rate probability.

So you're making a decision based on performance vs reliability. Is the performance difference between the two going to be noticeable? Without benching them I can't honestly answer that.

If I was going to run an external for gaming I'd find the fastest, smallest size (storage space), best ventilated HD. The smaller storage capacity simply will make it less expensive and if I do fry it then it won't hurt my wallet as bad.

  11. Lol I might just get the 4tb seagate expansion major Nelson is using for his xbox one and also tested with the xbox one and call it a day cause this is just getting too much for a xbox lol I'm fine with not shaving off 20 seconds off my load times I just
saw this seagate was one of the fastest external drives available on the market with really good reviews and wanted too see how well it performed on the xbox one.

People that have replaced the internal with a 7200 saw a 20 percent game load reduction, 10 percent boot.

The fastest external will see less than that so yeah it comes down to what are you willing to spend to shave a couple seconds off load screens.

Thx for the feedback man its been invaluable ill probably just get a normal Seagate expansion 4tb external that's pretty cheap and do my job with that like I said I got a 1tb western digital my passbook right now and works great so its not worth me spending
300 bucks or more just to shave a few seconds from my load screens. Ill go with what major nelsons been using.
