But from my understanding is that LAG can only be caused by a drop in your internet connection or maybe your NAT settings are set to strict, if it is your NAT settings maybe take a look at this link: https://support.xbox.com/en-ZA/xbox-one/networking/nat-error-solution,
but if its your net connection then maybe contact your ISP to check if there is an issue with the line.

I've got the original xbox elite. I've tried two ethernet cables now, neither works with my xbox but both work with a friend's.

check your cable if its in good condition. Try to check the router and see if the port lights up meaning its connected correctly and can access in and out data. blinking lights should be an indicator depending on the router brand.

Also try to use the cable and insert it in your laptop home computer and see if it can connect to the network. Ethernet cables contains a lot of wires and one defective wire can make the whole 25 meter long cable a dud.

Ethernet wires are more prone to malfunction that an xbox ethernet port since the port is rarely touched at all unless you remove the cable most of the time which i doubt.

or better yet buy a new cable and make sure to test it on the store to see if its working or not.

What model of xbox are you using? The original model with a wireless adapter or the new xbox s model with the built in wireless, and also, how long have you had your xbox?
