Hard drive wont be recognized by Xbox one

Yes i have done this. My external hard drive had 80% left of storage. But now it wont connect to my xbox. The hard drive itself has the light on and you can feel it turned on, but the xbox itself wont recognize it.

i hooked mine into my laptop and it read it there as the full memory but my Xbox still wont recognize it as a hard drive is there any way to reformat the hard drive so it is a Xbox hard drive? thats my question it still works just not for the xbox.

When you connect the hard drive do you receive any message? It should show up as a disk and ask if you want to format it. I fit does not go under settings to storage to see if it is showing; even an incompatible drive will show up. Other users have
posted the required specs for the external drive so make sure it meets those.

I have a WD external that I bought one month ago. Today it stopped being recognized and I have no clue how to fix it.
