  1. Hard Drive Whine

    Good afternoon all.

So... My Xbox One (bought in late June) hit the fan about two weeks ago with some hardware issues (dropping network and controller connection), so I sent it in earlier this week to be replaced. I popped the replacement out (Direct Exchange) and it was going
well. A slight bit noisier starting up, so no big deal.

Aaaaaand then last night it starts making this noise:

You will notice that this is not my Xbox One; my recording equipment isn't good enough to capture it. But it's the same high pitched whine. Started last night when I was installing, so I figured it'd be okay. Nope. Starting doing it today in game and on
the dash. Tried powercycling. I can find no video example of this whine, but I can find disc grinding and coil whine.

Help? This is a replacement sent from MS literally within the past week and it already has issues.

    Thank you in advance.

    :)

    xbox one COD edition noise

It's hard to tell from your video, but I think that could be caused by coil whine, in which case MS would repair/replace it for you. In most cases, the whine occurs when someone isn't playing a game and tends to disappear once they fire a game up, but it
could still be the issue in your case.

I wouldn't have thought that it was fan noise, as that wouldn't only happen when you launch a game. It could be the normal sound of a hard drive seeking/reading, but again, it's hard to tell from your video.

    Hard Drive Whine

    Hi there

That's very unfortunate that you purchased a hard drive online and replaced it. Doing this voided your warranty and now you will not be able to get a replacement from the warranty program. Additionally if you purchased the Xbox in June it should have been
under warranty. Your best solution would be to buy a new Xbox at this point.

PS DIY fixes are against the forums ToU.

  5. If I understood correctly, you never opened your console or changed your HDD by yourself. You are talking about the HDD noises that you can hear through the case of your Xbox One console?

Well, if it really is that high-pitched noise, you will have to open a Replacement Request with Xbox Support again, as Hydro Skillet mentioned, there is no possibility of solving it by yourself because that would void your warranty.

    Best regards

  7. So what I'm hearing is that the one-week old console from MS is a dud and I need to replace it again?

    -_-

Alright. Thanks for your answers. And yeah, no, I didn't do anything. That's from a PC's hard drive, not my Xbox. Thanks for your time. When my original gets returned (still in the mail) then I guess I'll send this one back too... Yayyyyyyy.

Ripped off by Microsoft, false advertising?

Some people just have to whine. I'm perfectly happy with my One.

I also don't understand all the whining about the HDD, memory management and no compatibility with external Hard Drives. Even with all the games out, one can't fill up the existing 500 GB HDD.
