hard drive unformatted and error 4174-0000-3080-051c-8007-0070 when downloading live update

my sons 360 is just over 18months old, the other day we switched the xbox on and it said update req. downloaded update a( to approx 25%) then puts up above error code.

formatted hard drive and still the same. tested connection in setting and all ok till it comes to test live.

cannot store games on hard drive(4gb hd) but can store game save points.

down loaded update onto memory stick but does the same, goes up to 25%, then tries again-25% then puts up same error code. even hard wired to router and still the same.

Hey JoshTrueBee, I really thank you!! Your reset steps suggestion worked perfectly and I could finaly update XB360, after some months of off line games, due to the error message 4174-0000-3080-0504-8007-0070. My best regards.

 

That error suggests there is not enough space for the update.

hi, go to settings and check storage and under memory unit it say unformatted instead of 4 gb.click on the hard drive and says formate hard drive. formated and reset back to factory setting.we have 2 more 360s and they dont have a problem.

even brought a 8gb memory stick and it still wont work

by a simple format of this unit.

My recommendation is that you send your console in for a repair.

think ill throw it away then and buy a new one, £70 plus tax for repair,cheaper to buy a new one.

if it is internal memory will an external hard-drive work?

 

I've seen this problem numerous of times. Even when customers are having the external hard drive it's still not a working solution.

The internal flash memory still needs to be fully operational. Even if you add an additional storage device and with your flash memory in an unformatted condition, the memory is useless and so is the console and it's operating system.

The internal flash memory can't be removed, as with an external hard drive, which can easily be added, or removed.

I suggest that you phone Xbox support and have them know about your situation. If you talk to the right person, maybe he/she have some more insight and an understanding about this situation (which in my opinion is not that uncommon, when the internal flash
memory become corrupted).

hi, have reformatted harddrive and can play games and store game data,so console is usable.

we play minecraft alot but because we cannot download live it will only let us play on tutorial.

took a 120gb hard drive out of my old white xbox 360 and took it to bits,actual hard drive fits in to slot if care full.fired up and downloaded all live and other updates

 

As there is no official 120GB hard drive for the 360S system what you have done is considered modding and if caught by the PET could suffer your console being banned from the Live service altogether.

 

even though its official microsoft,that i own, ill get banned but i can go online and buy anything from 20gb upto 250gb- non microsoft and il be ok. no wonder most people round here are switching to ps4s
