  1. Hard-drive space running out on xbox one

We have 11 games installed on our Xbox one:

    • Assassians Creed
    • Ghost
    • Forza
    • Killer Instinct
    • Need For Speed
    • Tom Raider
    • Battlefield
    • Ryse
    • Just Dance
    • Lego Marvels
    • Rising Dead 3
We plan on getting Titan Falls and Thief when they come out but BIG problem. With Xbox's requirement to install games we are already at 75% full with less than 90GB left. Please help. We don't want have to delete a game just to install another one. There
has to be a better resolution than this. Xbox would not have assumed people would only have 15 games or less they play..right?

    :)

    Adding external hard drives

Ok, I will answer my own question:

The DIGISTOR™ DIG-82153 is a 1TB Portable Expansion Hard Drive for Xbox One gaming consoles that uses a high speed USB 3.0 connection.

Running out of space on your Xbox One? The 500GB Xbox One only has 364.8GB of useable space.

Xbox One doesn't allow you to upgrade the internal Hard Drive, but you can use the DIGISTOR Portable HDD to expand your storage!

Unfortunately, because of game sizes today, you will need to delete games to free up space.

Here is an article detailing what exactly happens with storage on Xbox One:

    support.xbox.com/.../manage-storage

The biggest take away is that save data is not erased. The next time you install the game, all of your saves will be right there.

The Xbox team has also mentioned being able to use external hard drives in the future to store games on, but currently there is no ETA on a release for that.

They should have at least put a 1TB hard drive in this console, 500GB is just not enough.

  6. Consularfish, most people feel that 500GB of storage is not enough. The reality that all of us who play a fair amount of games will face going forward is that there really is no such thing as enough storage. Even with a 1TB hard drive, many of us would be
facing capacity issues by the summer. With games hitting 30GB to 50GB right now and surely heading upward in the future, we will be faced with two options:

    1. Purchase numerous external drives when they are supported

    2. Manage our installed games and applications

My recommendation for your own sanity financial well being is to manage your data.

Regardless of the fact that you can "manage" your games, if you have to download games frequently just so you can change it up a bit every other day or even week, it's a huge problem. And just out of curiosity, when you delete a game like forza, I know you
keep your saves, but what about the updates? are they gone as well? If so, do you see the problem now? If you keep those as well, with other games coming out and all those space consuming GBs will eventually KO you HDD. XBox has to put this as a top priority
    ASAP .

The updates don't necessarily add that much size to the game. They might be large in download size, but they replace content already installed. So, a 13GB patch may only add 2GB or less to the total size of the game. The patches themselves must probably
get deleted in addition to the game install.

And, as noted before, external HDs are coming, and are a top priority.

WHY do the games have to be installed to the hard drive ??? on the old xbox 360 you can put the disc in and play in an instance...NOW you have to install the game and considering when we bought the xbox one we only had basic broadband at 2MB PM download
speed which to my sons horror it took over 3 hours to download fifa 14 so now weve upgraded to bt infinity only to find out we can only fit 13-14 games on the hard drive meaning we have to uninstall some games and then reinstall them when we intend to play
them and now it looks like we have to fork out for an external hard drive in the future, ive always prefered the xbox to playstation but looks like we'l be changing in the near future

I understand peoples frustration with the way the new system works, but to be fair IPRO, the PS4 has the same size hard drive in it. Invariably you're going to be looking at the same storage issues on there as well.

Games are getting bigger. The increased resolutions and added benefits like 3D and 4K compatibility (not available on the X1 yet but hopefully soon) take up a lot of memory. Forza 5 is the only game that has been rendered and plays in true 1080p on the
X1 so far and between the game itself and all the updates and DLC, It's over 90 GB's now or just that one game.

The system is no different than your computer. If you start running out of room you either start deleting things or you expand your memory.

Games need to be installed to the hard drive because of blu ray read speeds are slow, much slower than on a hard drive. This was also the reason why a ton of PS3 games had partial installs.

Three hours to install a fully digital game is not slow (especially considering games on PCs have been taking that long forever), considering the size of the games.

External hard drives are cheap, less than $100 for 1TB of space. You can also always delete games you don't play anymore to free up space.

The PS4 has the same hard drive space and the games are the same size, so there will be no difference.

    @bigbenx88

Forza 5 is not the only game that is rendered in native 1080p. Peggle 2, Tomb Raider, Strider, and Wolfenstein all are in native 1080p, just to name a few. Many of the smaller games are 1080p.

Forza 5 is definitely not 90GB, even with the DLC. My Forza install is 20GB. You might have downloaded that much over time (even though I doubt it), but the size of the game doesn't increase linearly with the size of the updates (just look at Dead Rising
3, 13GB patch, added no where near 13GB to the actual game size).

Not seeing any documentation for Peggle 2 or Strider, seems kind of odd they would render those games in 1080p and they are just arcade releases. The games probably play on your TV in 1080p but only because the system is adjusting it for that resolution.
Wolfenstein just came out so it may well be and that's not very surprising, most games are going to start transitioning to that moving forward.

I'm sure what you're looking at with your install of Forza 5 but I think you're looking at the wrong thing. The base file for my install, no dlc, is 60.8 GB. When you add in all the dlc I'm at 90.3 GB.

External Hard Drive is coming very soon via the June update. The update will enable support OF USB 3.0 drives of at least 256GB or larger. Two drives can be connected and management at one time. You will be able to transfer full games including all DLC and
    app to the storage device.

I just looked at my Forza 5 install, 34.6 GB. Addons are all around 10 MB, probably because they only unlock the cars, as the assets are already in the game so people playing multiplayer won't see an invisible car. I really have no clue where you are getting
    your numbers from.

The reason why there is no "documentation" of Peggle 2 or Strider being 1080p is because there is no "controversy" that can be spawned from it. Peggle 2 is exclusive. Strider is the same resolution/framerate as PS4 (there are definitely articles online detailing
    this).

Here is a list of games and native resolution/framerate for both consoles from IGN:

    www.ign.com/.../PS4%20vs.%20Xbox%20One%20Native%20Resolutions%20and%20Framerates

What you are referring to when you say "The games probably play on your TV in 1080p but only because the system is adjusting it for that resolution" is upscaling. All Xbox One games upscale to 1080p (as far as I know). What I'm talking about is native resolution,
which means the game is rendering in 1080p.

1080p isn't this magical threshold that only AAA titles can get. It is tradeoffs. I can make a screen with a black box in the middle and render it in 1080p, but it wouldn't be amazing. Best example of this is Ryse: initially they made it 1080p, but after
reducing the resolution to 900p, and then upping some other graphic settings, they were able to make it look better than if they rendered at 1080p.
