    A year or so back, my Xbox One X constantly failed to connect to Xbox Live, and even had trouble reaching my network at times (both wired and wireless). I did a hard reset and it would work for a day or two, and it would konk out again. Another reset,
    another day of it working, back to nothing. Did this multiple times for about a week. Got so frustrated I gave in and bought a new Xbox One X. No issues as of yet.

    Fast forward to the other day and I am watching a Youtube video of someone installing and SSD in an Xbox One S, [mod removed], and the issue was the console was having the same issue I was a while back. So I thought I would try and replace the internal
    drive in my old one and get it up and running again, so I have another console I can use in another room. Being that the video is for the S, and not the X, I look up a teardown tutorial for the X. iFixit shows how to do so, but with the disclaimer that it
    may ban my account if I did it, and to do it at your own risk.

    So my question is, will I get banned from XBL if I try to replace the Hard Drive in my broken and out of warranty console?

    You wouldn't lose anything. On the new console you would sign into your account and under Games and Apps you can redownload all of your games. Your save progress is stored on the cloud and will resync when you start a game.

    An external hard drive needs just to be formatted but the system will do it automatically.

    If you mean the internal drive, you don't as that would violate the terms of service and void the warranty on your new console.

    If you are referring to external HDD,
    see here.

    For internal HDD, proceed with caution, this will break any warranty you may have, it is not recommended, i suggest youtube videos for DIY procedures.
