    Hard drive not working


    Hi there, I just received a brand new xbox 360 with a hard drive about a month ago. It was an 8 GB hardrive with almost all the memory full. I then downloaded Halo wars (the full game) which was 5 GB so I removed some of the storage. I allowed backround
    downloading via system settings and turned off the consol. I then turn the Xbox 360 back on and it cannot read the Hardrive at all. It Just tells me there is no storage, and everything that i had on the xbox was saved onto that hardrive. I tried removing it
    and putting it back in and restarting it. But nothing happens. Could someone please tell me how to fix it WITHOUT having to replace it? Because I would think its kinda ridiculous that my brand new Hardrive now has to be replaced after just a month and would
    have to start everything all over again with all the data gone.

    Hello,

    If this hard drive was just purchased newly, you might want to consider returning the hard drive to the retailer where you purchased it and exchanging it for a new one. That is not normal for a new hard drive to do. Are you 100% sure that it was a new hard
    drive in Microsoft official packaging or was it a off brand/3rd party hard drive? This sort of activity happens normally with cheaply made 3rd party fake/knock off hard drives.

    a month or so ago i bought a hard drive for me xbox slim because i was running out of room. it wasnt working at first and it started to make me mad so i just left its be. my issue was every time i tried to transfer anything to my new hard drive i would get
    the loading screen then nothing would happen n my xbox would restart...i even tried saving my game to the hard drive and all it would do would restart my xbox. what can i do...i bought the correct hard drive for my xbox slim but it just wont work. restarts
    every time i try something

    Are you sure it was a brand new, never opened console? There are no 8gb hard drives for the 360.

    If it was an 8gb it's possible it was a knock off and would not have been authorized for use anyway and would have gone bad.

    Unfortunately, with any form of storage, unless you had everything backed up somewhere else, there will be no way to replace the files. Anything you downloaded can be redownloaded, but you would not be able to recover game saves. If it is an official hard
    drive, you could contact Microsoft for a repair since it should still be under warranty, but they will not be able to get the files back.

    Hey there rocketstar!

    I'm sorry to hear about the issue. Have you tried plugging your HDD into a different USB port? Or trying a different USB cable? You may also want to try

    power cycling     your console to see if that helps. Try doing the power cycle with your external HDD unplugged as well.

    It does sound like you know what you are doing, if anything I suspect faulty hardware. The next course of action I would take would be to contact the "shop" you purchased the hdd from and get an exchange. Whilst annoyingly time consuming I don't believe
    you have any other current options. Sorry.

    As a side note I highly recommend you look into changing your gamertag.
