  1. Hard Drive Not Booting Up Xbox

Hi guys, how are we all

I own an xbox one and a 360... I've been flitting between the two lately as I have fallen in love with the mass effect series again but maybe going down a different path etc. I kicked off the first mass effect game and have been making decent progress....

However, one evening as I sat down to further my "chatting up Ashley" one red light came on and the picture on my tv was all distorted. As I leaned over to just switch it off I could hear what's best described as a very faint alarm going off in the hard
drive - obviously I know it's not an alarm, it just sounded a bit weird. I have since removed said hard drive, xbox boots up like nothing happened, put hard drive back in and get the same red light etc etc. I do have a back up hard drive (A 20gb one which
I got at the launch) and it works all fine.... downloading system updates etc

Xbox support have basically just told me that it is done - there is no way to remove the data. YouTube says otherwise. Has anyone ever had a similar experience and done a diy repair (or had a computer shop etc do it) and everything has worked out for you??
And before you ask, no I did not save to the cloud... I wouldn't be on here if I did!!

I have 9 years worth of gaming on that disk.... surely a chunk of data can be saved in this day and age....

    :)

An Xbox original game not working

Did you clear your system cache's three times? After that, restart your Xbox and try to boot up your Spider-Man 2 game. Try booting up the game in these scenarios:

    • Try booting it up with one hard drive and then another hard drive.
    • Try booting it up without signing into your profile.
    • If possible, try it on another Xbox 360.

  3. Xbox won't work; dashboard won't load and games won't play

Hey there. Try booting up your console without it being connected to the internet. Do you get the same results? Also try booting it up
with the hard drive removed, and see if that has any results. Post back afterwards as to what happens.

    Hey there Mallorca,

I'm sorry to hear about the issue. Thank you for posting up such detailed information.

If you haven't already, I would suggest following along with our
Flashing Red Lights on Xbox 360 troubleshooting wizard
by selecting the one red light option. If the steps within the troubleshooter don't do the trick for you to get that hard drive working again, unfortunately your hard drive will need to be replaced.

Feel free to post back to let us know how it goes. Thanks!

  6. When you are swapping between consoles are you swapping HD leads back and to in the socket?

Its possible you could have damaged the HD lead, as i had a similar issue myself with a distorted picture and a noise from the drive when my lead got damaged.

Do you have another lead to try, or a different socket on the tv to use?

  7. Thanks for getting back to me guys..... Miss Diggz - it appears my hard drive is in fact dead. The faint alarm I could hear is (so I am told) the disc reader which is in fact stuck - the peeping noise I hear would be it trying to obviously move to read the
disc but failing. This makes me think surely it just needs a repair to the disc reader part??

Theowenkiller - Ha, I have a mark 1 360 (good ol' fashioned white machine) so rather than a scart I have the cables plugged into the television whereas my One has HDMI connection to my tv so thankfully the only thing I need to do is choose which one on my
tv remote! I'm on my 5th 360 due to RRoD's but my current one came from the repair shop in Germany and has been brilliant for years (although it sounds like a plane taking off)

My question is still out there to people though... if they have sought the help of a backstreet computer repair guy etc

    Thanks

    Xbox refuses to recognise HDD

Remove your hard drive and then boot your xbox up - if it boots up properly then its a problem with your hard drive.

    xbox 360 wont boot up

Hi there! Can you try and take out the hard drive and boot the console up with out the hard drive on? If it boots correctly then try it again with the hard drive. Then if it doesnt boot correctly then im afraid you'll need a new hard drive.
