Hard drive needed for xbox original games on the xbox 360

I downloaded an xbox original game onto my 4gb xbox 360 and before i bought it, no where on the description said that it required a hard drive so I downloaded it for £6.75 and after it downloaded, I went to play it and then the error message popped up saying
that i needed a hard drive. This really annoyed me because it did not say that before buying and i don't have the money for a hard drive. I hope microsoft fixes this problem because this is annoying for people who have 4gb xbox 360's to save money

This problem usually occurs when you have an Xbox 360 hard drive that is not genuine. This can happen if this Xbox 360 hard drive was purchased from a place like eBay or Amazon Marketplace and it was not an original Xbox 360 hard drive.

Only hard drives manufactured by Microsoft in their packaging have the emulation files needed to play original Xbox games. The hard drives that are purchased from eBay / Amazon Marketplace are usually fake/knock off hard drives which can only play Xbox 360
games.

 

Can't play downloaded games

Hi, have you changed anything like your XBOX 360's hard drive, perhaps upgraded to a larger one or replaced it completely with one purchased from an online store like eBay or Amazon Marketplace? If so, more than likely this hard drive you did get is a knockoff
and is not an original XBOX 360 hard drive. Since both of these games are original XBOX games, they require that an original XBOX 360 hard drive be in place in order for them to work.

Only the original XBOX 360 hard drives have the emulation files needed to play original XBOX games on the 360 console. If you haven't changed your hard drive at all and were able to play (without any changes done to your system in the last few months) then
this is more than likely an issue with your original hard drive. The only real test to see if this is the case would be to get a new hard drive or a used one as long as it was an original Microsoft manufactured hard drive and put that in the system and download
your profile and either game on it to see if it works. It's quite possible that the emulation files on the hard drive you have now are damaged in some way which is preventing these original XBOX games from starting up.

 

You could give support a call and explain to them what happened. It probably won't help you in playing the game, but they might possibly give you a refund on the game considering what happened. I can not say that they will, but it is a possibility. 800-4MY-XBOX

and for the record it does tell you you need one on the website when you go to buy and download games too when you type in a game in the search one of the first lines in the description is this: An Xbox 360 hard drive is required to use this item.
