  1. Hard Drive Issue

I am having a little bit of trouble with my external hard drive. I purchased a Western Digital 3 TB My Book Desktop External Drive (USB 3.0 – SN: WDBFHK0030HBK-NESN) to use for Game & App storage for my Xbox One. I used NTFS formatting for hard drive with
my Windows XP PC. The formatting was done through disk management and there were no extra partitions visible. Formatting left 2.7 TB on the drive.

Before I plugged in the drive I changed the power setting to instant and select the option for the Xbox to update on its own and to turn off the drive when the system is powered down. Also the Xbox stated there were no updates for the console.

The Xbox recognized that the drive was there and I started the formatting though the Xbox. The formatting took about 30 to 40 seconds and it showed 2.7 TB available. For about 15 to 20 minutes I had access to move things onto the drive and to see the contents
of the drive, but after that I received a notice that installations were failing. The odd thing was that it transferred all of the files I wanted and I was able to the use the files on the drive. The drive still shows up in the storage management in Options,
but I can’t access it. An suggestions to fix this issue?

    :)

  2. Hard drive issue??

The no gamer pic and 0 gamerscore on my friends list just happened even though it was fine this morning. Everyone is a silver it says as well. Not sure what the problem is, seeing as I just turned it on and this happened. My 360 hasn't been freezing either,
but it did take a tiny bit longer to connect to Live randomly and nothing has been changed.

    Hard Drive Issue

Hi, try changing the option to power the drive off when the Xbox is off, having that enabled can cause issues, after changing the option power the Xbox off and on again.

  5. EggsBoxJuan, disabling the "when Xbox is of, turn off storage" did not restore my access to the drive. Thank you for the suggestion. Any other ideas?

Power the xbox off by pressing and holding the power button on the front of the xbox for 10 seconds, disconnect the external drive, power the xbox on again and once it has fully booted up reconnect the external drive.

If that doesn't help you may be best formatting the hard drive again and starting over. Should you do that can you format the hard drive on your PC by the regular method rather than the disk management tools. Right click the hard drive on the desktop and
    select the format option.

  7. I don't know. Are you sure you didn't make it Read Only or something when you formatted it the first time?

Hi there Hard Drive Issue :)

The guys gave you some good suggestions so I'd check them out.

I'd also try to verify that the drive itself is working properly and that its health is in good condition. I'd connect the drive back to the PC and run
WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic. See if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests. This should exclude the drive as the potential cause of the issue.

Contacting MS's support for this is also an option Hard Drive Issue :)

    Post back with some updates!

Ok, I notice by going into the games tab it has all of my arcade games. It won't show any of the images as it usually does when signed into xbox, but the games boot. It asks me to update,(since I booted Banjo Kazzoie) I press Download now and it just stalls,
the download never finishes.(this is a 242 kb file)

    Hard drive issue.

The data on an Xbox hard drive is not meant to be read on a PC. Trying to move them to a PC is a violation of the TOS and it is likely that the files will become corrupt and unusable.

pretty sure that is against the forum rules as you are discussing a type of self repair to a damaged drive (formatted via 3rd party transfer cable).

    It appears you used a
    third party transfer cable
and ignored the screen that asked you if you wanted to format the HDD for use with the 360. The 250GB HDD is now a 16GB USB Memory Unit. It cannot be converted back into a 360 HDD.

The only officially supported 250GB HDD (outside possibly a used HDD) for the original 360 console comes with everything needed to do a transfer, including the official transfer cable.
