    Hard Drive Issue after update


    Hi,

    So I just updated my xbox and now I am having problems with my hard drive. I had an error while updating, I didn't bother to read it and told it to try again. This time the update was successful. But now it thinks that the thumb drive I had plugged in during
    the update is the main internal hard drive add my 4Gb internal hard drive says that it is not formatted. I am unable to format my internal hard drive and now my xbox thinks it needs to update again, in the space of an hour. Also my accounts were deleted from
    the xbox so I cannot play. Thoughts? Suggestions?

    External Hard Drive/Xbox issue. Scratching my head.

    There are some great info here on how to solve the external hard drive issue. I have 2 western digital 4 TB hard drives on my xb1 and had a issue with one them not being readable. I have to say that the guy at western digital's support was fantastic! He
    walked through all the steps to reformat the drive and get in back working with the xb1.

    When in doubt try calling the drives costumer support.

    Now the issue I have is after a xbox1 os preview update both drives become unreadable! If you have this issue that after it resets after install of the os update is to unplug the drive and do a hard reboot, After the restart plug the drive back into the
    usb port and this should restore the external drive access. I wish MS would fix this in a future update!

    Serious External Hard Drive Issues for Xbox One

    I have the same issue.... My external drive worked since months.... After the last update i get the message external hard drive is ready again and again......

    I had something similar but not exactly the same thing happen after downloading the last update. The update was successful but the first time I tried to save something, everything went haywire. It deleted my profile and all my data disappeared. I'm guessing
    it thinks the internal memory is corrupted because none of the data appears in the system settings but it says 3gb of memory are being used.

    Hello Jesse,

    I've done all those steps but no luck. For some reason its not doing anything after you click MEDIA USE and the hard drive never shows up.

    I've even done a complete reset removing everything on hard drive and even plugin a new hard drive having the same issue. (exact same type of hard drive...I bought two from Costco but never opened the second hard drive until now).

    As stated above, it worked before but stopped detecting the hard drive for MEDIA USE. I believe this happen right after I updated to the September updated. because after I updated the console and then later on in the day I turned it on noticing this issue.

    Could be the external hard drive causing the issue then it won't be the first time I seen errors appearing after updates on external hard drives. Try installing it on internal drive instead if you can?.

    You may be able to get storage on a HDD, but you will still most likely encounter problems, seeing as internal storage is the primary storage device.
