    Hard Drive Frequently Becoming Unformatted


    Hello. About less than a month ago, a game froze up and apon restart, my hard drive was unformatted. It has been doing this a lot now. I know I have lost my data and that's okay. This is an official Microsoft hard drive running in a Xbox 360 S. What
    do I do? Thank You.

    Xbox stuck in update mode, can't install update from disc.

    before the update have you had any other issues with your xbox? such as your hard drive becoming unformatted or this same issue with orther cds?

    Xbox 360 Hard Drive suddenly vanished

    Hey RTN,

    Alot of us are currently having a simar issue where our hard drives are becoming unformatted or erased. Last I heard, Microsoft knows about it and is investigating the issue. Hopefully we'll know more in the next 24 to 48 hours.

    One more thing. Is it a Xbox problem or a hard drive problem? I would have added this to the first post but it wouldn't let me put it in the correct place.

    I am having the same problem too -- except now I cant even save anything to the hard drive. and upon the re format, it is showing 1.5GB of space available , but when I check the system, it shows 0kbs all the way across

    (sorry to hijack your thread--- but i have searched and searched for this particular issue and i cant find anything)

    Hi, as the hard drive is showing as unformatted there's little you can do but try to format it. The hard drive may not format or format but then become unformatted again which would indicate a major problem with the hard drive.

    So, a failing hard drive is what causes the frequent system updates? My partner's xbox has unformatted itself three times now. It's the 360s with 4gb drive. I didn't see a compartment for a hard drive like mine has (360e), either.
