    Hi,

    Recently I wanted to copy my xbox saved games into my computer but I did not have a memory stick with me, so I decided to improvise which has led to unfortunate consequences.

    I removed the hard drive from the console and connected it to the computer via sata cables and a usb adapter. The PC did not detect the hard drive so I disconnected and reinserted it back into the console.

    Now the console no longer detects the hard drive, and I can only suspect it has been corrupted due to a file system incompatibility.

    I have been told by local console repairers that I would need to forfeit the hard drive and purchase a new one, which I'm not ready to do yet.

    Is there any way the save games and the hard drive can be recovered. Else if not, is there any possibility the hard drive can be formatted and reset, so it can be detected and used by the console again?

    I appreciate any assistance that is offered, as I do not know what else to do.

    It is possible that the second had hard drive that you purchased is DOA. You should return it for your money back or an exchange.

    Nope, you cannot transfer data from the 20GB drive to the Slim drive on the PC. This process can only be done on the Xbox 360. Please also remember not to format the storage devices on the PC as it will make your hard drives essentially paper weights by
    doing so. The Xbox 360 has a very specific formatted file system structure, if the console detects anything is changed it will either not read the hard drive or detect it as a USB which you won't be able to solve using any sort of tools provided by Microsoft.

    The use of 3rd party tools on Microsoft Xbox 360 hard drives is a violation of the terms of use.

    I realize this thread is old, but I was having an issue with my Xbox 360 Slim, Glossy made in 2010.

    I removed my hard drive 1 time very carefully and re-inserted i. When I powered on the xbox I got error e68. I unplugged and replugged everything in and it worked but my hard drive was not detected. It turns out that the SATA cable that goes into the back
    if the hard drive somehow got unplugged, That fixed my xbox. Just to help anyone who has this issue.

    Well considering I can't send it in either way because as I stated it is out of warranty and I didn't have $100 bucks to spend for someone else to put in a part that costs definitely not that much, I didn't really have a choice. My question is actually about
    the hard drive which I didn't do anything to so I'm not sure if that's a problem but I appreciate the explanation anyway. All I want to know is why its not reading my hard drive which I did nothing to, but if that can't be answered either simply because I

    Hello,

    We are not able to assist with anything in regards to a 3rd party repair. Doing so is a violation of the terms of use and unfortunately means that no one here nor even at Microsoft will be able to assist you with this matter. Even if you wanted to send your
    console in for an out of warranty repair at this point, you will not be able to if something was messed up as Microsoft would refuse to repair it since it has been opened and 3rd party parts have been used.
