Hard Drive de-formatted, now apparently, my Xbox Live account is gone, yet still exists.

So here's the story:

About three months ago, we took the Xbox 360's power cord, and didn't use the Xbox for the time being (Don't ask why). When we put the cable back on, we found out that our HDD had de-formatted somehow, we had to reformat it, losing all the stored games in the
process, but we also lost our Xbox Live account. We tried to recover it, but it's like it disappeared (We also seemed to find a strange phone number on the recover page, the number ends with a 40, and nobody in my house has a phone number that ends with 40), yet
it still exists. I don't get why, but we cannot connect to that specific account, instead, Xbox acted like we needed a new one, and assigned us a new Gamertag. We need our old gamertag back. Does anyone have an idea of how to get it back?

I'm sorry to see any issues recovering your account. If you've already gone through the

recovery process, you will need to contact us via phone or chat support to see if they are able to help you gain further access to the account by confirming an email if you are able to verify your account through them.

That's an interesting situation for sure, do you remember the email address and password associated with the Microsoft Account? If not, you'll want to try this guide

HERE for some tips to recover it. Then you'll want to use that information to sign into the console.

That's the account I am using. But instead of recovering my old gamertag I got this new one assigned to me...
