Hard drive data transfer and clear/format.

I had RROD on my old style xbox 360 elite 120GB.

As the console was over 6 years old I have decided to buy a xbox 360 slim 250GB rather than fix my old console.

I have also ordered a data transfer cable to copy the data from my old hard drive to the hard drive on my new xbox 360.

I would like to sell my old xbox elite on Ebay for spares/repair. Whatever I manage to get for it will offset the cost of the new console a little.

However, before I do that I would want to clear my data from the old hard drive.

My question is: Can I clear the data from my old style hard drive via the data transfer cable? As the console has RROD I cant clear/format the drive via the console itself.

    :)

    HDD data transfer problem. HELP!!!

When you transferred the content over to the new hard drive, did you have the old or new hard drive plugged into the transfer cable?

If you had the 120GB hard drive plugged into the transfer cable that may be where the issue is being caused, would you be able to transfer the data back to the 20GB hard drive, plug the 120GB hard drive into your console, format it then try transferring
the data back to the 120GB hard drive with the 20GB hard drive plugged into the transfer cable and the 120GB hard drive plugged into the console.

Hard drive data transfer and clear/format.

Hi, firstly I hope you ordered a genuine Microsoft data transfer cable. Third party cables more often than not will make both hard drives useless as xbox hard drives. Should you be asked to configure the hard drive when using the cable please do not proceed
    any further.

On to your question, when the data is transferred the source drive is wiped of data and so you should be good to go in that respect.
