    Hard Drive Became Unformatted


    I turned my xbox on and it froze so I restarted it and it said I needed an update so I updated. Then I tried to sign in but my profile wasn't there. I went to storage and my hard drive is Unformatted but I have been using it for quite a while now so it has
    lots of game saves so I don't want to format it as I would lose it all. I have an xbox 360 and I have had it for a few years now can anybody help?

    System update has ruined my Hard drive.

    Yep...happened to me as well last night. My internal hard drive became unformatted and all data was lost. Thankfully this was a new unit so not much data was lost. Still, it doesn't give me much confidence about this console.

    Help! Hard drive unformatted after every restart

    My 360 is the 4GB version and the default hard drive is the only one I use. I was playing game this afternoon and it suddenly froze. So I turned off and on the console to find that all my data is gone. The worse thing is that my hard drive became unformatted.
    I could reformat it, but it becomes 'unformatted' after I restart it. I have tried "clear cache" and it won't work. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

    Hi, as the hard drive is showing as unformatted there's little you can do but try to format it. The hard drive may not format or format but then become unformatted again which would indicate a major problem with the hard drive.

    Hey there Fir! Are you saying that your hard drive is unformatted? When you go to System, then Storage does your Hard Drive read as unformatted? I'm trying to make sure I understand the situation.

    Once a hard drive is coming up as "unformatted" that means that the Xbox 360 can no longer read the data that's on that hard drive.

    You can try to remove the hard drive and place it back in the console and see if it makes any sort of difference. If it doesn't then that means that the data is already gone as there's no way to read data that's coming up are "unformatted" on a hard drive.

    You'd need to format that hard drive in order for it to be readable again. If this happens again, it's likely an issue with the hard drive and it would need to be replaced.
