Original Xbox games need a hard drive, It's not storage space this is the issue here. Original Xbox games load on the 360 via a software emulator, this emulator is only available via an Xbox 360 hard drive. Don't fall for the mistake of buying a cheap
hard drive from eBay or similar, these drives are fake and are missing the emulation software. The hard drive must be an official one.

Hey there Foil. That's almost definitely your holdup then. You need to have an official Xbox 360 hard drive. The emulator software needed to run original Xbox games comes standard on the hard drive. There's no way to obtain the emulator software other than
on a hard drive.

I'm not sure where you bought your hard drive, but if it was sold to you on the pretext that it was an official Xbox 360 hard drive, I would return it to the retailer and exchange it for an official one. If you bought it from a friend or something like that,
you'll need to purchase an official Xbox 360 hard drive to be able to play those original Xbox games.

You need a hard drive and it must be an official one. Originals will not work with only a memory unit, flash drive or an external hard drive. It doesn't matter what model of 360 you own. My 360 is a 'Core' model with a 120GB hard drive.



There are two reasons why an official hard drive is important. The first is that there is a software emulator on the secondary partition of the hard drive. This software is what the 360 needs to tell it how to run original Xbox games. The second is because
on official hard drives, 2GB of the secondary partition is reserved as a hard drive cache for running original Xbox games. Even the original Xbox had a hard drive cache, if the game can't see it, it won't run.



Fake drives are missing these essential components, without which no original software will work, disc or downloaded.



So the question is, where did you buy your hard drive from?

What specific Xbox 360 console do you own? Do you have an official Xbox 360 hard drive attached? In order to play Original Xbox games on Xbox 360, you need a console with an official Xbox 360 hard drive since the software required is stored on the hard drives
themselves. 3rd party hard drives or non-official Xbox 360 hard drives will not work.
