Hard disk noise normal?

I bought a xbox one yesterday and i have a question about hard disk noise. Basically when i play a game with the tv muted i can hear the hard disk working while sitting on the couch 2-3meters away. It's not very loud and i'm sure that if a game like destiny
was running with sound on i wouldn't hear it but i was just wondering if this is normal at all.

The noise sounds like fast successive ticks or even static noise. Hope i can get an answer asap.

Thats not the HDD all Kinectless consoles made on or around June seem to have this issue. Take a look at the forums about xbox noise

 

Then what is it? mine definitely sounds like a HDD. Also other people who have noise issues seem to have a lot more noise than i do, is it still the same?

 

From what i have read some consoles are louder then others with this issue but its all the same issue. My Xbox i cannot hear the HDD at all in it i can hear a pin drop but not the console. It's an unfortunate issue, it seems to be wide spread. I am unsure
what HDD's they use if they are all the same so you possibly have a noisy one. Do you get the noise idol in the Dash as well?

 

no i dont have it in dash, just in games. In the thread with a lot of posts (forums.xbox.com/.../1827902.aspx) it doesn't actually mention
what his problem is exactly so i cant compare.

How would i go about returning it? I have xbox live + games on this one (probably a noob question but im new to xbox)

 

I would contact support and get an advanced exchange if you are certain its the HDD failure. If you are unsure maybe upload a video with the sound so others can chime in.

The other issue with the weird noise on the consoles doesn't appear to be catastrophic and some are waiting to return the consoles since alot of people who have returned consoles got a replacement with the same noise.

 

How would it work if i got a replacement? Do all my games + xboxlive transfer? How do i do that?

 

Since i cant seem to edit my last post, So the xbox one is supposed to be completely silent when playing right?

 

No, not completely silent, about 42dB - there is always a slight sound due to the hard drive and fans.

The annoying noise issue (which I believe is due to coil whine), will make a noise of 50dB when the Xbox is idle, but will not happen while you're playing a game.

 

So i have the opposite, mine doesn't make noise in the the menu's but when i am ingame the harddisk seems to start making static noise (as if its working) of 50dB (when i put my phone on it with an app running)

What should i do?

Mine makes the same noise - I think is hard drive related. I have seen movies of console's with the coil whine problem, and they sounds different. Personally, I don't worry about this noise - still quieter than my PS4 and Xbox 360.
