Hard Disk Drive Unformatted?

when this happens it's most like caused a failure of the hard drive itself. When the hard drive fails it will result in the console thinking it needs an update.

The things you can try are disconnecting and reconnecting the hard drive like mentioned here:

support.xbox.com/.../add-remove-hard-drive

If that doesn't help anything the only option left is to try and format the hard drive to see if it will work afterwards. This will remove anything from the hard drive, you should be able to redownload any items you purchased via the download history on
your account, any items like save games that were only on the hard drive are lost I'm afraid.

If the hard drive format doesn't bring the hard drive back or if it happens more then once you will need to replace the hard drive. You can request a replacement via

Hi, as the hard drive is showing as unformatted there's little you can do but try to format it. The hard drive may not format or format but then become unformatted again which would indicate a major problem with the hard drive.

Don't go and buy a new hard drive just yet, it may not be faulty.

Sometimes drives can become currupt and unformat themselves. Connect this drive to a PC and try disk management to re-initise it. You'll still need to download the games, but you may not need a new drive.

Hey there Fir! Are you saying that your hard drive is unformatted? When you go to System, then Storage does your Hard Drive read as unformatted? I'm trying to make sure I understand the situation.
